Hi All, I have had a bit of a twitch in my right eyelid over the last two weeks, it seems to be on my top eyelid but I doesnt appear to be visible when looking in the mirror.

This has been quite annoying, is this a common problem that will ease itself?

It is called 'Blepharospasm' and has a wide range of causes, most of which are lifestyle related and it is very common indeed!

You may be short of sleep. If you're not getting enough, or if it's interrupted this is one of the symptoms.

    Stress causes it too.

Eyestrain is a possibility too, so get your glasses / contacts checked and don't spend too long staring at screens if avoidable. Get out and look at far away objects : a scenic walk can be very good for giving your eyes some distant objects to focus on. We spend a lot of time looking at small screens and paper. That's something our eyes aren't really evolved to do full time.

Reduce your caffeine intake, particularly if you're a big coffee drinker. Caffine can cause this in some people.

Also check you're getting a balanced, healthy diet. Certain deficiencies can cause muscle spasms. If in doubt consult your GP as there could be an underlying cause.

If it doesn't disappear definitely visit your GP or optician - There's a no medical advice policy on these forums. So, your definitely best advised to visit a GP if it's going on for a long time / you're concerned at all.

yeah i get this regularly in either eye (not at the same time)... it could be there for a month or more and then it'll go away for a while...

it's quite normal... to fix it, just get 20 hours of sleep per night, stop stressing out and drink 30 litres of water per day... that kinda stuff ;)

if you're human like the rest of us, can't simply remove stress by clicking your fingers and add a few hours on to your sleep schedule, it will go away by itself over time...

Most common causes are too much drink/caffeine/stress. In the main it's harmless it's just an involuntary nerve/muscle impulse

I still have it since February in my right eye, have been to Dr for somethign else and asked him about it and he said its nothing to worry about, i also have floaters in that eye and I may be straining it as a result! Anyway off work for next two weeks and therefore not on a computer all day so hopefully that should settle it down!

fwiw, my brother had blurred vision in one eye for a while, until he stopped mainlining coffee... Hopefully it'll be an easy fix for you too.

I get it occasionally (I've had it in both eyes at the same time, which is pretty annoying). If you look closely in the mirror you can see the eyelid jumping, but its not really noticeable to other people.
