5D still worth buying

I want to upgrade to a full frame camera but don't quite have the budget to purchase a 5DMk2.

    I am looking at purchasing a 5Dmk1.

Would this be still a good camera or is it really useless compared to Cameras today.

    My current camera is a 60D and I also have a 20D.

    Thanks for any advice.

    Stephen

I'm still using my D3 that I got back in January 2008. It's a 6.5 year old body at this stage and I see no need to update it. Great image quality. Yes while more up to date cameras along the same lines will have better noise handing/high ISO capabilities, its not worth me spending another AU$8000 for that.

A friend bought a 5D about 5 years ago when the 5Dii was out. He was hesitant about it before he bought it but embraced it once he had it. Best decision he made at the time. I still don't think he upgraded.

A 5D mki is a solid and cheap entry into full frame. It was a very good camera a few years ago so it's still a very good camera now.

You can pick them up pretty cheap these days too. I sold mine last year for something like €450.

bit the bullet and got one. It was only 400 in Conns.

So far I'm really happy with the quality of the images. Film like grain at 3200 ISO.

Works well with my 24-70L and 50 f1.4

    Thanks for the advice

What's the shutter count like for that price range?

How do I find this out.

Looking at the condition of the camera (very good) I'm guessing that it was used as a backup.

I don't think you can check shutter count on a mk1. I couldn't find mine out when selling it anyway. I just added up all my raw files.
At least with Conns you get a 12 month warranty with it.

Watch out for mirrors falling off. Pretty common but Canon will replace it under warranty. Oh and you can't get the shutter count either - without Canon doing it for you.

Forgot about that, probably all fixed by now, but worth keeping in mind. Canon did mine for free right enough.

OP The 5D is an excellent camera and it's a pity is sells for so little, my sample was sharper than the 5D MKII that I replaced it with, only I really wanted the video/movie feature, IMO the 5D is a better for stills.

Have you tried getting your MkII fixed? Doesn't sound like it's working as it should.
