Dole payments whilst in prison

This could be an urban legend, but here goes.
Came up in conversation with someone who claimed that there's a difference in treatment between settled people and Travellers in relation to dole payments and prison sentences.
If a two people, one a Traveller, the other a non-Traveller are receiving unemployment payments, and if each has to serve a prison sentence, that the non-Traveller loses his payments, but the Traveller's accumulate whilst he's in prison, and he can collect the lot once released.
I find it hard to believe. Any truth to this?
