I need to get a new strap on my Casio G-Shock.

I remember the last time I had to (about 10 years ago) looking all over Dublin and finding a place on middle Abbey St, Time Express mentioned in the thread below, in the same building as snakebite across from Arnotts.

I was told by several places that they were the only Service Centre in Dublin/Ireland.

They fixed the watch but when I went in the other day a guy who looked like he had been there since the building was built told me that they don't and never did do Casio watches and couldn't help me. I KNOW it was the same place

So, does anybody know of a Casio service centre??

Looking online only got me this boards post :(

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=61260046

I know I could probably order a new strap and fit it myself, but it needs a battery change. Want to make sure it's done right to keep the waterproof seal, watch means a lot was a pressie from my daddy when I was a wee lad.

Funny, their batterys last about as long as their straps with continual wear, they both went at the same time before

    Thanks...

(Mods, sorry, move to consumer issues or tech or wherever you deem necessary)

Maybe ask over on watches and timepieces? They're very knowledgable and I'm sure they'd be able to help.

Years ago it used to be in South Great Georges Street , Dublin.

Maybe someone can shed some light on whether its still there.

Straps are quite easy to change, you should be able to do it your self with a little patience and a spring bar tool.

You don't mention what model GShock it is but ebay would be a good start, may not be genuine but would be cheap. Or you could splash out from somewhere like Seiya

As for the battery, Fast-Fix will reseal and pressure test the watch. They may even do straps.

Nice one. No idea of the model and it's at home, it's about 18 years old so don't know if it would be supported, but it's fairly generic.

    Thanks for you help...

I like the looks of this:

For my new G-Shock Mudman, doesn't even need a new strap but those look sweet, especially with the stainless clasp.

    But for the one I started the Thread about I would go with something more traditional, like so;

    Ebay Link

Crappy though, they don't include the pins. One of mine got severely bent, I did a repair but it's only a matter of time. The metal's fatigued already.

Propably better off scoping a few places in town for that one...

    Thanks for all the help/suggestions.

(I didn't know about the watches and timepieces forum before this, do you know that Guinness ad with the "elegant men of the Congo", I picture you guys like a mix between them and the monopoly man. Wearing pocket watches and suits and wishing the anti-smoking advertising would allow you a pipe-smoking and fine cognac Forum)

    Sorry, I need sleep...

Very definitely. I'd nearly always change the pins/springbars when changing straps. They can let go all too easily.

Thanks. At the weekend I'll do a mosey round town and see if anybody can do the straps/springbars.

Blanchardstown is a bit awkward to get to for me...

If they have the bars but no straps, I'll order those one's from ebay.

If not, I'll twist an arm and get a lift out to blanch...

Yep, I learnt this the hard way.

My Grandfather got me a lovely analogue/digital combo for my confirmation and passed away not too long after, so it meant a lot.

It got ripped off my arm playing football and I just straightened the bar and popped it back in.

Fell off my arm a few days later without me noticing, gutted.

You know when something is unreplaceable like that is gone, felt horrible as I was really close with my Granddad and it was nice to have a connection to him on my wrist, reminded every time I looked at my watch, etc sentimentality etc...

Oh god I hear you FF :( It can be a real wrench when it happens. I've been there and like you lost a treasured watch(even though it was a cheap yoke, it was priceless to me). TBH it's one of the main reasons I have put a NATO/G10 type strap on nearly all my watches even before they were known as that in the wider world(I still have one of the type from the mid 80's). That and I have an odd sized/shaped wrist so normal straps don't usually fit so well.

Thanks, yep it is crappy when something like that happens and you lose something meaningful there's no way to get it back.

And usually the things we attach sentimentality to aren't financially valuable, just something that means something to you and would be worth next to nothing to whoever finds it.

I went into every shop near where it fell off asking if anybody left it in. Put up posters with a reward exceeding the value, everything I could think of to no avail.

    Bummer.

I don't like sending things away, years ago I got a state of the art dumb phone from Meteor on Henry St, just when Meteor opened up. A school mate whacked me with a sweeping brush and broke the screen.

I brought it back to the shop and they said they would send it away and it would take 2 weeks.

Went in 2 weeks later "One more week, probably Thursday"
Next week "A few more days"
    Next week "Probably another week"
Next week "What phone, give what back? Sorry no record of you".

I was so fed up and already had a new phone I just said feck it.

So will probably try getting the parts online and go to Fast-Fix as suggested to replace the battery and pressure test it.

If they don't do the straps and springbars for G-Shock themselves and I provide the ones I get online they may fit them for me.

    Thanks...
