Underground Cable - Need for conduit?

Want to take a power supply from house to new garage recently built. Have a 1/2 inch cable from main box and will have to chase house walls and concerte path in order to get the cable to the garage. The cable is a special underground 1/2 inch thick cable. Somebody has recommended using conduit or pipe to protect the cable…

Want to take a power supply from house to new garage recently built. Have a 1/2 inch cable from main box and will have to chase house walls and concerte path in order to get the cable to the garage. The cable is a special underground 1/2 inch thick cable. Somebody has recommended using conduit or pipe to protect the cable from the concerte, that will be covering the cable, this will be a pain in the ass. Is this highly recommended? or should the cable without protection be ok?

You will have to use ducting, bury it over 600mm deep with warning tape layed at 300mm.

Cant be no bigger than a 2.5 sq if it is a swa.
