CV writing service

    Can anyone please recommend a good CV writing service, preferably in Cork. I last used my CV 6 years ago and think the format / layout is probably out of date at this stage.

    You might be better off having a go yourself. run it by a few friends etc and see how you get on. There's lots of free stuff online e.g.

    TBH - writing a CV for someone else means sitting down with them for at least an hour to discuss their experience and achievements.

    Then 1-2 hrs writing it up, formatting, proofing and sending it back to you for final checks.

    3 hrs work - it's not going to be cheap.

    Dont pay anybody to help with your CV. As long as you go in the format of personal info first, then education, starting with most recent and working back, employment history, starting with most recent and working back, then additional training/qualifications, interests and hobbies and finally references.

    HR departments just want a CV that is clear as they scan over them so quickly you would not believe, so make sure to sell yourself!

    TBH I'd put Employment History before Education, unless you've got very specialised qualifications for the job, and little employment history.

    Employers want to know what you're doing now....

    I was just basing that on my own experience of working in HR. When you are recruiting for a role that could get anything up to and over 100 applications, 90% of which are in the format I mentioned, you get used to seeing them in a particular way, which makes it easier to scan through. Anything that makes the recruiters job easier will always go in your favor in your application! :D
