Handwraps?

    Hello :) I was wondering is it possible to get something other than hand wraps to protect your hands (that are not boxing gloves) when your working on focus pads? I just find wraps so awkward and because I'm doing Krav Maga I find you end up needing to take them on and off a lot and I just find it time consuming doing it. A friend of mine suggested weigh lifting gloves or something? Would this work or are their more suitable ones you can buy? Thank you!:)

    Why do you need to take them off a lot for Krav Maga?
    If its because of hand mobility, then you probably just need to wrap the hands with a more suitable method.
    MMA & often Muay Thai use a wrapping method that keeps the palm a lot more open, focusing the bulk of the warp on the knuckles. This gives the hand more mobility, which is required in MMA for grappling. There should be plenty of tutorials, and different methods on youtube. Try a few and see if its better.

    Failing that, you can get quick wraps. Which a slip on gloves that are worn in place of traditional wraps. My preference would be for the above.

    I'm curious as to why you need them wrapped to begin with? Isn't Krav Maga supposed to be for self defence, meaning that you won't have wraps/gloves on should you need to call on it?

    What advantages does wrapping give a user if they're not going to be wearing gloves?

    If you get in a serious fight and you come away from it with just a sprained wrist, I would consider that doing pretty well. If you sprain your wrist in training, I would consider it a bad thing. You also throw a lot more punches in a training session than you would in a fight which is usually over in a matter of seconds, so your hands are going to take more of a battering.

    So the wraps are a type of training protection. Thanks, Doug.

    Given how common injures to hands are in real fights it's something that you should give thought to if you're focused on self defence

    There's a school of though that modern boxing technique changed considerably with the introduction of mufflers/gloves

    Thanks for the replies!:) I usually do punch the focus mitts bare handed (as I do want to get my hands used to how feels of course), but for the last two weeks we've been doing a lot of punching and my knuckles are getting irritated (especially the upper cuts, they were a killer!) and bleeding from the friction and then not getting enough time to heal (although I was using more palm strikes last week to allow them to heal quicker and not to rupture the wounds again).

    It's more that we tend to swap between using the focus mitts and then using actual techniques that require you to have your hands completely free, and I suck at putting on the hand wraps as it is :o so I was just curious if there was an easier alternative that I could just slip on and off with relative ease.

    But maybe I'll just have to go easier with my punches and just deal with having to put the hand wraps on and off, I just find for me because I'm crap at putting them on, it takes so long!

    Thanks for the advice Mellor, I'll make sure to look that up!:)

    Hand wraps aren't meant to protect your knuckles like that. That's the job of gloves.

    The wraps are to give your hand and wrist support and are worn under gloves.

    That's pretty much the situation with MMA, or any other grapple and strike MA.
    I use either of these methods for wrapping;
