Pressure cooker: hissing security valve

    Hi all,

I've got a question regarding pressure cookers, if someone can explain to me why mine makes a really strange noise and run out of water really quickly (even on moderated heat).

I have a tower Pressure Cooker 4370. There is 3 safety valves on the top:
    1. A spring one: http://www.stockportovenrepairs.co.uk/photos/cgd2149.jpg
    2. A "security valve": http://www.dysondoctor.net/images/$(KGrHqF,!l0E+F6w271IBP0SuYZl1w~~60_35.jpg
    3. And what they seem to call a weight assembly: http://thumbs3.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/mm1WUiiTI5qxfElNm3cHcJw.jpg

While it was working fine for the first two years (i.e., the pressure was released through the weight assembly), it does something strange now. When on the stove, all the steam seams to be directly released through the "safety valve" number 2. If I block it manually with something, then the steam is released the normal way through the weight assembly.

So I unscrewed all the valves to clean them, and I found that there is a hole all way through the second valve. I seams strange me, and would explain why all the steam is released, but I wanted to get some feedback before ordering a new valve online.

Btw, by a hole all way through I mean that when O hold the pressure cooker lid and look through the safety valve 2, I can see through on the other side.

Anyone with more knowledge on this to tell me if it's me being crazy or really a problem? I'm also open to any suggestion about what I might be doing incorrectly too...

    Cheers

That valve has a thin metal disc inside that will blow if it gets too high pressure. But you could have simply lost or punctured the 'burst disc' part when cleaning etc. The safety valve should blow off first before this one. So please replace both valves together, as they do get gunked up with use.

You might as well get a lid seal while your at it.
