Anybody got any opinions on the petrol versions of these. Would be interested in reliability & economy, yeah I know, the boring stuff.
Any one currently driving one, how do you find it?
    Thanks

The current model is effectively a Reskin of the older 2006 model, the 1.4 iDSI engine was replaced on the old shape around 2008 or 2009 for a 1.4 iVTEC with more power and better emissions. This was carried over to the 9th generation shape.

If you're looking at 11/12 you're looking old model.

The 1.8 is the one to get really if you're getting petrol. I have the 06-12 shape 1.8 iVTEC and get an average of 43mpg from a tank, mainly open road driving with some city/country driving too.
Did limerick to dublin and back like a saint last week and averaged 47mpg

1.8 new shape Ireland will be hard to find as they got quite expensive when the current model came out. There are plenty old shape ones around though.
Feck all goes wrong with either engine.

Tax is usually €390 on the 1.8, but some specs/trims fall into a higher emissions bracket so keep an eye on that.

There are loads in the uk.

    Why? Is the 1.4 sluggish?
I don't do a lot of milage plus what I do is 95% around the town.

    Thanks for the other info

The older iDSI model was chronic slow, newer 1.4 feels a lot nippier. All have 6 speed gearbox. You won't really be coming across iDSI models though.

0-60 only tells some of the story but here goes:
    1.4 iDSI 14.1 seconds (80bhp)
    1.4 iVTEC 12.1 seconds (98bhp) €280 tax
    1.8 iVTEC 8.6 seconds (139bhp) €390 tax

Great, thanks, any other general comments about the Civic you would make?

They're a little but noisy and clunky at low speeds compared to say a Focus. Doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Try and get one with the panoramic roof as it transforms the interior,

Rear visibility could be better, split tailgate and lack of a wiper takes getting used to at first.

I might as well add that I've done 38,000km in mine in 18 months and nothing has stopped working or needed attention

I've only spent money on oil, tyres, plugs, a battery, air filter, brake pads and rear discs. There's 148km on it now and its still on honda stickered shocks (assume they're the factory ones), seats are still like new, as are interior plastics. They're very well made by the looks of it.
