Castlebar has not really had much success with clothes shops in recent years or any retail shop really besides the likes of Next and Argos, most do not seem to last over a year or two unless they were already established in the town, the amount of vacant premises is huge as well, some have been sitting around for years and have had nothing in them since they were built.

    It is peacocks
castlebar has loads of clothings multinationals xenji.
Next, shaws, name it, benetton, lifestyle sports, new look, penneys and loads more and now peacocks

thanks for that. i was planning a trip with the wife and child for easter and was booking a hotel in castlebar tomorrow, i know to avoid there now

We have 8 stores for clothes, 3 for sports and a jumble of local clothes shops with vastly differing standards of quality.

Castlebar is no more effected than any other town. there are vacant units for sure. but if shopping makes a difference to your choice, then Castlebar still has more to offer than anywhere else outside Galway

You make it sound like there are only 15 or 20 businesses in the whole town and the rest of the buildings are falling down around them. its true that the down turn has taken its toll as it has right across the country. but what you are posting simply is not true. nonsense in other words.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,506 ✭✭✭✭Xenji

What is not true, we do have 8 national clothes stores, 3 national sports stores and then about 10 more local clothes stores and around 15 vacant premises in the town centre, hard call that nonsense really, some people are blinded by town pride sometimes.

    xenji stop your nonsense talk

Still waiting for somebody to prove it is nonsense, I live in the town and I am giving an honest opinion, so prove me wrong or give me a better response, no point blindly supporting the town, if you have that mindset it will never improve.

do you really want us to list out all the businesses operating in the town centre? take a walk around maybe?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,206 ✭✭✭Samsgirl

    Guineys are in Waterford already

As clothes shops go, go ahead, and they will match the numbers I have posted, honestly give up with the jibes and post some facts, not really helping the look of the town with 2 posters saying my posts are nonsense and not taking the time to truthfully explain why.

Seems right to me. Went shopping for toddler shoes today and only 1 shop stock them. Heinze shoe shop beside post office is vacant and main st store was closed today, no signs explaining why. Upper crust is shut and elverys is uncertain now too.
