    Hi

i have a roca victoria gas boiler in the house.. and its not firing have been told by a reg gas plumber that it appears to be the valve within the boiler that is the problem...it ticks like as if it is tryn to fire but fails to do so...the part seems hard to find as these boilers are no.longer madeand the company is gone.....does anyone know where i cud get parts or will another part(valve) from another boiler work???? .

The boiler was serviced and fired no problem and then then a few hours later wud not fire...

    thanks

Had a quick look and didn't get any good results I'm afraid, and even their website fails to open

From the manual the gas valve does not appear (from what I can see) to be a 'common' valve like a sit or a honeywell, I think you maybe in trouble for parts!!

But it does sound a bit suspicious that it worked fine until just after serviced, I wonder is the gas valve modulation setup correctly?

I'll admit straight up that i'm completely clueless as to the workings of boilers.... but....

What you describe - clicking and failing to fire - sounds exactly like what happens to my boiler when the pressure drops below a critical point. Is there a chance that that's what's happening?

If you've had a plumber out and he didn't mention that, then admittedly it's unlikely, but just in case.....

Low pressure would not allow the boiler to attempt to fire.

Fair enough, I did say I was clueless.

It would be easy to determine if the gas valve is the culprit or not. It this is not 100% confirmed! it could be the gas valve set up! the electrodes may be positioned incorrectly unknowingly, leads may be loose & not allowing enough spark, etc.
It would really depend on what tests were carried out on the gas valve to determine it is faulty.

Would it be usual for valve just to stop.....i woukd also like to point out that the gas was not in use for months prior to the service as my tenants didnt use it...

Gas boilers can do strange things at strange times so in other words yes it could just go after a service.
If the RGI says it is definitely the gas valve, it likely is, but if he is guessing then I would be suspect. It really depends on the ability of the RGI.

Obviously no chemical/mechanical powerflush! Sounds like a plug & play price.

Think of it like putting a new engine in your car. It would not be wise to spend money on a nice new efficient shiney engine & re-use the oil from the old engine.

Standard efficiency boiler heat exchangers have much larger passage ways than high efficiency boilers. Any sludge (metallic debris) in your system is bake into hot spots of the newer HE exchanger, leading to creating a solid mass & eventual replacement heat exchanger & the process begins again.
Damage to boilers caused from system sludge invalidates your warranty.

Added to that, most modern boilers operate with volt free contacts which also requires changing of the timeclock & room stat if fitted.
So many plug & play installations use the permanent electrical supply as the switching circuit, thus leaving the boiler with no pump over-run, no frost protection, no pump shunting, etc. This also invalidates the boiler warranty.

A proper flush cleans your heating system. It should take the best part of a day. Don't fit a new boiler until it's done
