Hi I'm just wondering what are my options for a 08 inwards estate diesel. I currently have a 00 Skoda Octavia estate that does ~55mpg which is very good.

I'm considering skoda superb, Hyundai i40, avensis, Mondeo estates, even another Octavia estate.

One of my main requirements is fuel efficiency.

    Any help appreciated.

Is your existing Octavia a 'greenline'?

If so, you are probably near the top of the fuel efficiency/load lugging tree.

    Maybe a Prius?

I doubt they had a Greenline Octavia model back in 2000.

OP, another Octavia sounds like it will tick all the boxes for you.

A Golf Estate would be worth looking at too.

Mk6 only came in 2010 though

We have a 132 reg Octavia Combi diesel. It's nowhere near as economical as the one you have already.

IMHO you already have the best combination. Maybe find the newest version of your own ?

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Is that one the current model or the 2nd generation?

ya its starting to dawn on me that newer aint always better. im not too fussed by all the new fandangos, i just want bootspace, reliability and fuel efficiency.

so the newer octavias are not as economical as the older ones? Thats surprising.

You will find that with each new generation of car they tend to get bigger and heavier. Though the current trend is for them to be getting lighter again while still growing in size.
