Hi all I've been asked by my golf club to control rabbits and magpies primarily they want rid of the hoppers due to course damage and the chatterers as they are starting a wildlife/songbird preservation initiative. I only have a .22 air rifle and a 12g sbs so need a vermin tool. Also a moderator is absolutely essential. This might rule out a .17. All advice welcome.

Larssen traps for the mags, and perhaps a 22 long for the bunnies ?

.22LR will do for rabbits. However, .22 Mag is a very powerful and versatile choice, and would also handle any other unforseen critter that might pop up.

I reckon your air-rifle should be fine, it's already pretty quiet.
Given that its on a golf course the animals should be pretty used to people and not really perceive you as a threat so you should be able to get pretty close!

If you need something quiet your only choice really is a .22.

A moderated hmr or wmr will be the next quietest, the hmr would be better suited because of its flatter shooting for longer shots on rabbits.

22lr would be the right job. Completly silent. Well the bullet hitting the target is the loadest thing you will here.

You could do a sub for your 22 air rifle and have it quick enough. No need to do the full license application again.

.22lr, suppressed with eley subs. Had one, sold it,regretted it ever since, will be getting another one, SOON! :) all you will hear is "click\thud"! Sound out a hundred yards and won't piss anyone off. You can do it for very reasonable money too. 3-400 quid will set you up nicely.
    Just my 2c.
    LR

I do the same thing for a number of golf clubs but the problem is golfers out from first light and till dusk so it mostly lamping.
Any way its not long before rabbits get wide so it a .223 for rabbits, at dawn the same for rabbits and crows on the ground as for maggies your best bet would be the air gun and watch out for golfers

1larsen going between me and my mates farm switch every 3 or 4 days so far 23 magpies and 4 greys. Since February 10
Local gun club appear to be totally uninterested and yet get very annoyed with me having permission on all the local farms where I control vermin and shoot pigeons. Oh well mustn't grumble. And I got all the wind blown trees on the golf course after the storms for firewood

Ha! some people want to have their cake and eat it. You must take great satisfaction when they give out :)

Don't know if you are farming, but the antics of some calf dealers around the sales ring is like a soap opera. I bid away on what I want and let them jump up and down while they try and carve up the trade among themselves.

id love to get permission to shoot on a golf course ive ask a few clubs with no joy , so fair play and best of luck with it, a 22 rifle would do the job fine wit sub sonic rounds , to keep the noise down ,
