One that seems over priced to me is bold thady quill. Took some of the 33s with stan James. Third in this last year and will love the ground.

There is one I've had my eye on for a long time. Seal Rock is now 18lbs below his last win mark and has won fresh twice, 7lbs below his last run. This is a good race and I'll probably leave him but I'll be raging if he won at 20/1. He should win soon though, hopefully out the back tomorrow and down another few for an easier race.

Edit has actually won fresh three times, 6lbs below it's last run and handles soft ground. More of a 12/1 shot I think

There is a little bit of money for him. Said I'd have a small bet I'd be raging if he won and I missed it.

Cheval Rouge for Harry Rogers might be a bet.

Harry likes to ready one for the marquee meetings, and the gutsy mare Cheval Rouge was second in this last year. Goes well fresh, and is at home on the going. Maybe a few points too big.

Feck sake Cheltenham is barely cold in the grave, and were back to mostly flat until Aintree..

Not looking forward to trying to pick the winner of a 20 runner 5 Furlong Sprint (or similiar) at all..

Yeah seems plenty strong tom. I would trade off but it wasn't a big bet

I'm sitting pretty @ 16's too. More than happy to see it out. Not like I have a choice. I'm just lucky that I can get on.

I like Cheval Rouge too. Things look suited to the horse. Going for Chapter Seven aswell though. Looks like it has more to give on a softer surface by Excellent Art from Pivotal.

An a decent apprentice too on Bold Quill, getting on that as an each way.sure, who knows.

Surely Weld's two horses will be in contention since they should be race fit, the favourite seems to like further however, kinda fancy Defining Year though.

Thank god.the flat season is, hopefully Irish racing will b interesting this season, would be nice to see (a) Ballydoyle not getting their own way in Ireland, and ,(b) someone like Wayne Lordan or Chris Hayes really challenging for the jockey title. Granted the former might be a possibility but the latter?

How will Jim Bolger do?, I sense he is.not everyone's cup of tea, personally ,I find him amusing .Weld is said to have a few good horses this year.

Had a look through the card, these are my fancies for the opening day of the season:
    Race 1: Bwana 10/1
    Race 2: Rousayan 3/1
Race 3: English Deer 6/1, Great Minds 5/1
    Race 4: Wannabe Better 11/4
    Race 5: Intensical 12/1
Race 6: Beacon Lodge 28/1, Defining Year 20/1, Einstens Folly 16/1
    Race 7: Belasarius 9/4

I'd be very cautious backing O'Brien's this time of year I'd usually leave it another month before backing them. Seems to be plenty of confidence behind the Fastnet Rock colt in the last, thought the ground would be a worry thought they all preferred quick ground

today is officially Jim Bolger Benefit Day, I'm expecting him to win all 3 maidens, with Tommy Stack to get a couple as well.

    Regulation 14-1
    Me like EW .
Has a better chance than most and as good as chance as some

Well, maybe not. I know you can't take much from their first races, and maybe ground dont suit, but Cleary gave Mannings Horse a lovely chance in the first.

Seal Rock still very strong. In the words of Colonel ''looks a live one''

Knock Stars is race fit and with only 8-7 with weight has place chance shirely .
    18-1 ew
    Me like .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,040 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

What a mess, everyone was blocked from making a challenge.
Knock Stars looked for gap, had to stop riding twice, in the end just quit like half of the field did.
Very packed, slower horses blocked better ones

Dead last. Will surely go down another few for that. Fact he went off 6/1 shows better was expected, will keep him onside despite that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,172 ✭✭✭NaiveMelodies

Big form boost for Shipyard in the Lincolnshire with that last winner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,040 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

    Morga should win this
    14-1

Never looked like winning but stayed on well for fourth. Nice ew payout.

Horrendously disappointing! Looks like one of those that looks well handicapped but is just gone at the game.

Disappointing alright but not sure I'd say he is gone at the game. Kevin Blake did say on ATR he heard he was working very well, these aren't poor races they're running him in. Could be of interest in a weaker race, Curragh handicaps are always strong
