Does this sound right? I'm in Meath.

Just in and out half hour tops. Had an X-ray on it. She ' built it up' not too sure what that meant.

Only asking because a friend commented that there filling cost €80 in a different place 5 mins away.

In fairness it seems a good job. But nobody likes to get fleeced.

160 euro for a HUGE white filling is around ok. The size will determine the price so what other clinics charge for an average filling means exactly nothing.

Fair enough point regarding what others may charge.

I don't think it was huge however. Pretty sure it wasn't, I couldn't stick the pain :) in fact I think she said it was run of the mill ( not exact words of hers ).

Yes exactly. Is that about right?

Sounds a bit pricey to me, I had 2 white ones done in Newry for 110 euro including an xray.

Person A's filling doen not equal person B's filling. I have a meal in Belfast which cost 10 euro does that mean that a meal in Cork costing 30 euro is too expensive.

You might get it cheaper but it's about the average particularly if it was a very big white filling on a back tooth.

A small white filling might be cheaper than a big one, who knows?. If your fillings were bigger, covering more surfaces and taking longer then it might have been more expensive. Also there is an "economy of scale", most don't charge full price for the second if it is done at the same time as the first.

Sry I don't know the name of my teeth, was a lower one about 3 from the from the front middle if that makes any sense.

Getting a handle on comparative costs of each individual treatment is difficult. It's kinda like saying " I paid €10k for a car, is that expensive?". If it's a small car with 200k on the clock and no warranty, yes it is, if it's a big car with 5k on the clock and a five year warranty,it may not be.

Youtube you don't know what type of filling the OP had, was it big or small, what tooth it was, was it pinned,(OP said it was big and the tooth had to be built up so that will not cost the same as a small single surface filling) , was it difficult, what type of x-ray was taken,?etc, etc.

Again, youtube if you had a larger filling, chances are you would have been charged more no matter which clinic you had it in.

Or the dentist is a bit slow, or the other persons dentist is fast. Its simply not possible to say. Its all speculation.

Card, I'm not trying to make comparisons between clinics North and South, East or West. If you are a new patient at a clinic, base line records and x-rays cost more than someone who attends the same clinic every six months. You could go back to the same clinic wherever it is in six months time and have a check up & small white filling and be charged €80.

All clinics in the South are required by law to display prices so you can easily check before you go in. If you feel it's too expensive, vote with your feet.
