Looking for places to stay around Nice, in France?

    Hi all,

I'm flying into Nice next month and haven't booked any accommodation yet.

We're thinking of staying somewhere outside of Nice so accommodation won't be as expensive.

Have never been to this part of France though so I haven't a clue what areas would be nice to stay in.

We'll be hiring a car so don't mind being a bit of a drive outside of the likes of Nice, Cannes, Monte Carlo etc..

Really just looking for a nice area hopefully with some nice restaurants nearby which we can use as a base to travel from everyday. The main thing is a nice area with good standard accommodation that won't cost the Earth.

Anyone have any ideas or recommendations at areas that might be worth checking out?

Or even any suggestions for nice hotels - good standard apartments etc..?

Also, if anyone has any tips for car hire companies that are reasonable, that would be great.

Thank you all, any advice at all is really appreciated :)

    Hi Moyglish,

Just going to throw you my two cents.

Fortunate to have spent two months in Nice last year. Personally I would like to be beside the coast but everyone to their own. So if you were based in Nice, and considering it's low season you would probably be looking at 500/pw for a decent double room apartment. In Nice itself there is usually a good atmosphere during the night with lots of ncie restaurants in the Old Town.

Besides that you have smaller towns located along the coast which are more pricey.

While you are there I'd recommend visiting Eze, it's a charming medieval town with fantastic views. You can park your car for free and it's a short walk up uphill from there. Villefranche-sur-Mer is a good place to grab lunch and take in the surroundings.

Sorry that's all I can help you with but feel free to ask questions.

    Hi Terre,

Many thanks for your reply, very helpful! :)

I actually just booked accommodation last night in Antibes for the first week - it's a completely refurbished apart-hotel that was done last year and it has free parking, and it seems to be mid-way between Cannes and Nice, so hoping that will be nice.

We'll probably check out other areas and look for acommodation for the rest of the holiday once we are over there.

I'll definitely check out those areas you mentioned. Thanks once again Terre, it's greatly appreciated :)

Antibes is lovely. The old town is lovely to wander around and there will be plenty to keep you occupied. The best thing about the Côte d'Azur for a holiday is that it is all so well connected by public transport. You can do day trips to Nice, Monaco, Cannes, Villefranche and many other towns in less then an hour from Antibes and it's all very cheap and efficient to get around.

I'm back there for a weekend break in about 10 days.. It's just starting to get hot down there so I'm looking forward to getting that sun on my back again. Have a great time !
