Is there a way of picking a starting point on a recorded programme, say 10 min into it? I know you can fast-forward to that point, but with Sky you could insert the number of minutes into the programme from which you wanted it to start.

No, not with UPC or UPC HD boxes. Don't have Horizon so know if that box has the facility

    Ask here http://www.boards.ie/ttforum/1546

I don't have UPC for TV any more but I'm pretty sure on my old silver Thomson box that you could skip forward (and back) by a fixed amount that was configurable in the settings, i.e. in one go rather than fast-forwarding. This worked both on recordings and while pausing/rewinding live TV.

There was also a well hidden feature whereby you could add bookmarks to recordings and jump to those, but can't for the life of me remember how to do it. All I know was that it involved the 4 coloured buttons on the remote.
