CVRT fail on side slip after service

    Hi,
I bought a second hand Ford Transit connect and brought it to a main Ford dealership for a full service as it needs a CVRT, i'm no expert on motors. I got it back from them and to cut a long story short there were a few things needed doing but nothing too serious.

Brought it to a local mechanic who replaced the CV boot which had burst, got a couple of new tyres and went for the test. I passed on everything except side slip which was out by 2m/km.
On the report from the Ford garage it said my wheel alignment was good.

I'll have to get the alignment done but to my mind this should have shown up on the report from Ford and I wanted to know if I have any comeback on the Ford garage ?
Is wheel alignment the same thing that causes side slip ?

The vehicle tester for the CVRT said replacing the CV boot would not have caused this problem. I did not tell him about the Ford service.

Should I get it done and send Ford the bill, demand they sort it out as they didn't test properly, write them off as money grabbing cowboys and forget about it or have I simply got the wrong idea?

a service, full or other, wont check for things like this. You should have put it in for the test first and then you would have been able to tell them exactly what you wanted done, showing them the fail sheet.

A full service does check for this. The service report shows wheel alignment marked as good.

I was on to the service manager before lunch and asked him for the figures on his end of the report. He said they do it "by eye" if the tyre tread is even on both sides. I pointed out to him that the report shows the tread difference on the two front tyres - 1.6mm < 2.00. That's a difference of 20%.
He hummed and hawed and said he will get back to me on it. No matter, if he wont sort it i'll be taking out a claim against Ford for the cost of retest plus the cost of fixing it.

they don't have the equipment to test for things like sideslip as far as I know.

Nothing to do with Ford, your claim would be against the dealer (if you have a claim)

So why did they write on service report that alignment was good ?
I'd say OP has some come back.

I don't know Maybe they checked the alignment and the OP hit a kerb on the way to the test centre?

Yes, they do. The van was not bought from a dealer.

    Troll much ?

His point is that your claim (if you have one) will be against whatever garage you got the van serviced at, not against Ford directly.

They don't. And he's not trolling - you're blowing up the wrong tree. Get the alignment done, get the track-rod ends checked - your lad who changed the CV boot probably opened the track rods to get the drive-shaft out. Anyhoo, quit the blame game, get it fixed and retest. Mountain out of a molehill.

Yes, they do and I've already had it verified that they accept responsibility and will redo it gratis as they should have done originally, the tossers.

No, he didn't, I was there and I believe the correct expression is "barking up the wrong tree".

Maybe you guys should get your facts straight and learn to read properly before offering bad advice/bull**** on these boards.
I'm convinced some of you must work for Ford ...

ps. I'll post the name of the garage here when this is done and dusted.

Maybe we do, but the guys who did whatever to your van don't! Maybe you should read your own post!

I do. I applied for a position that said "must be flexible and willing to travel". Now I'm a mudflap on a Transit connect.

Why dont you demand that whoever fitted the tyres pay for your retest surely they would have seen the wear on the tyres.

You got a vehicle health check done in the ford garage they did not do alignment it would not be possible to track a car with worn tyres like the ones you had.

Better off suck it up get the tracking done and get your van retested.
