    Hi All,

I have a dilemma facing me in the coming months. I will be relocating overseas for work for a couple of years and need to decide the fate of my venerable 05 Mazda 6. She's just passed the 413,000km mark and has been my loyal companion since new. With the year and mileage I'm guessing €1,500 is about all I could realistically get for it if that.

I will be home at various stages of the two years, with Christmas being one such time. Rental cars at that stage are working out around €800 for anythng decent for 2 weeks. I'm now leaning toward holding onto the Mazda for use when I return over the course of the 2 years, which may be as many as 4/5 occasions.

Is this mad? What would I need to have someone do to it during that period? It would be parked under shelter and have someone to turn it over every now and again. Are the new off the road rules cumbersome for the above plan?

    Interested in people's opinions.

if your not stuck for the 1500 ?E and have space then keep it, probably works out cheaper than a hire car too. you will have to manage tax, NCT and insurance while away too, worth factoring in.
Also if the car is lying around for months on end doing nothing you may have issues with flat tyres, rust, condensation, mold, flat batteries, seizing brakes etc etc etc, so it may probably not worth the hassle
