Try and sleep in the coconut oil once or twice a week if you can, I found it helped a lot leaving it in longer. Drink loads of water too, doing that and overnight treatments of coconut oil have really improved my hair. And pick up a good conditioner for very dry hair. I like the Aussie range.

I absolutely agree. I love to do hot oil treatments. I heat oils for around 20 secs in the microwave and apply as a pre shampoo treatment. The longer it stays on the better, overnight being the optimum.

The one I used the longest is coconut oil. But I like to change it up a bit. Other good ones are olive oil, argan oil, macadamia nut oil, sweet almond oil and grapeseed oil. I sometimes make my own mixture. I also use castor oil which I never use alone but I love it - amazing for scalp too.

EDIT: Forgot to add this - I love the Phyto Phythojoba shampoo for my dry, thick, coarse hair. I prefer ethnic hair conditioners.

The oils are only good for sealing in the moisture. You need to have your hair conditioned well before you oil it.

Not at all. I have very dry hair and use coconut oil regularly as a conditioner before shampoo. After I wash it out with shampoo twice, I don't need to condition as already soft and silky. Try it and see.

Regarding Coconut Oil - it doesn't work on all hair. I tried it a few times, did everything by the book and it did zilch for my hair, it even felt drier than before.

I looked online and there are people it doesn't agree with. I wish I could find an alternative that works.

I've used hot oils but the VO5 ones are only meant to be left on for a minute or so. I would love a deep conditioning treatment - preferably an overnight one.

I found argan oil made my hair very greasy within a day of being washed. I started using leave in conditioners from Aussie and Schwarzkopf and find they work better. Also try using a large paddle brush if you have shoulder length or longer hair as it'll distribute moisture and oils evenly through the lengths
