need to drillll a 22mm hole in a keg for part of my home brewery set up. keg now has the top centre, where the pipes lock onto, cut away. so I basically i have a keg with a hole in the top 14'' wide. I need to drill a 22mm hole just above the botton as an outlet.
Question is while im drilling with my hole saw what is the best cutting lubricant to use to prevent it overheating and if its a specialist one where would i get it in north dublin.
    hope this makes sense.
    ta

If the barrell is stainless use water , aluminium... oil based ..even wd40 or such would do.

i use aerosol cans of bike chain lube or else 3 in 1 oil. both are on sale in lidl for 2 euro at the moment . both do a grand job as a lube for cutting thru rsj beams and 3 mm steel plate with my hole saws and hss drill bits .

Might be safer to use water or maybe vegetable oil, some oils linger and you might taste them after? Not to mention the risk of poisoning someone!

Drill slowly, keeping enough pressure to ensure the bit cuts and doesn't just rub on the surface.

Its just aluminium so it shouldn't be tough or too hot.. Plenty of cooking oil would be best...

They are stainless I thought, not alloy.
Stainless needs pressure and slow speed to drill correctly. Plus lube plenty of lube.

Be carefull when drilling. There is pressure in them kegs not huge but what could happen is you start to drill and when pierce the keg the small blast of air could put a metal filling into your face. Yes I know a freak accident but seen it happen in a car that had a window broke. Fan was turned on full and a man had his head close to the vent

Read OP keg has a 14" hole in the top, doubt there'd be any pressure built up

wash it out well, you don't want oil in your home brew

nice one , bit of milton fluid solution to clean it out and clean off the 3 in 1 residue and you are good to go .
