    Hi Folks,
    3rd year Software Development student.
For my project - Irish Defence forces Fitness App.
Users - both existing PDF members (male and female) to help with annual Fitness Test and for users who want to join PDF who have to do the initial fitness test.
I believe there is 3 phases
    1. Body Composition
    - BMI calculation
    - skin-fold calliper test

    2. Local Muscular Endurance exercises

    3. Aerobic Endurance

What I have in mind is
    For 1.
    - quick and easy calculator and chart for BMI and others

    For 2.
    - step by step instructions with visual aids and text
    - record the time it takes to perform the exercise

    For 3.
    - show one's current progress of route on map and analyse ones performance = pace, distance, time

Feedback and suggestions greatly appreciated. :)

Sounds like a productive idea, however you'd need to get in contact with the DF press office before you associate the app with them incase you haven't already.

Thanks. My Supervisor is in the process of making contact with the Defence Forces. I should know by tomorrow. He is having difficulty though! If not I'll try myself tomorrow.

Great idea mattzami, id say the DF Press Office would be delighted to help.

are you doing the RDF fitness also ?

Great idea....here in the US there are loads of fitness apps for the various branches of the forces, most of them are "unofficial" in that they are not endorsed by the DoD, but they are really helpful. Look up US Army APFT apps and you'll get a sense of what they are.

Great idea though. Our lads use them all the time for unofficial PT tests, for official ones we still use the paper manual and scoresheets, but the apps are dead handy.

Thanks for the feedback. keep it coming! Received positive feedback from PDF today - they are looking for an app that can help Candidates prepare for the fitness test. I'm currently in the design phase at the moment and will let ye know at each phase how I'm getting on!

Its the same test and requirements across the board both tests - for recruits and also for existing members with the only exception being that for this year only RDF can get a grade 5 to pass - note this grade 5 is useless as if you want to do anything other than remaining effective, e.g. courses you need the same grade as the PDF to pass. from next year its the same - grade 4 or above.
