Has maxol ceased selling E5 as well as E85??

I have checked add stations in the Waterford area and it's normal unleaded or diesel or nothing???

They definitely stopped selling E85. As I done a project on bio ethanol in college recently and I found that they stopped selling it late 2010. Reason was government were adding tax to it which would bring the cost up 41 cents per litre so wasn't viable to sell it. I'm not sure about E5.

I could be wrong but I think all unleaded sold here now has some percentage of ethanol in it, so no real selling point in E5 anymore.

All the petrol being sold here contains 5% ethanol

    Thanks guys

If all the petrol has 5% ethanol has that increased the octane rating of the fuel? Or is it all standard 95ron

The Ethanol raises the octane rating but reduces the energy per litre. There are lots of threads on the topic in Motors, do a search. Include my avatar in the search and you should get a few hits - I had a Golf GT 1.4 TSi 170 bhp a few years ago which preferred 98RON but tolerated 95RON so I reckoned Maxol E5 was a good compromise though I never noticed much difference, probably because the higher octane was offset by the lower energy (megaJoules) per litre.

Funny thing - I was at the Young Scientists' Exhibition in the RDS in 2012 or 2013 and a young lady who did a project on the topic informed me that there is no Ethanol in Esso unleaded.

correct me if i'm wrong, but i think its the Esso super unleaded/Premium that has zero ethanol.

its not available down south, only up north

    EDIT:

I'm wrong.. all esso petrol has up to 5% ethanol
