It came up in a discussion at the weekend. Basically a guy went to register in a away compition pulled out a GUI card then said not the right card for this comp and pulled out another card to sign in.
Was thinking about it and I can't see anything to stop somone having. If you really wanted to be a bandit all you need to do is join a second club.

Sorry mike I think you are confused, having two GUI cards doesn't make one a bandit, plus if one is going to be a bandit and abuse the system then it's doesn't really matter how many GUI cards he has or doesn't have.
BTW if you suspect something untoward is/was going on then you should really report it.

I would have had two GUI cards in the bag when I joined a new club and still held onto the old card, nothing untoward, just didn't through away the old one.

I have 2 cards, I lost one, ordered another then found the original. Both work but both carry the same details.

I can't imagine there's anything untoward with having two cards.

Having 2 accounts and two cards might be an area of concern though. John Doe playing off 9 in one club and the same guy playing off 16 in another club under JJ Doe might be a way for a bandit to operate... But there's easier, less risky and cheaper ways to be a bandit I guess.

I still have two cards - one from my old club and one from my new one.

Not sure what would happen if I tried to use the old one though..!

Lots of lads have 2 gui cards if they are members of two clubs.Only 1 card will have handicap details other card will usally be for bar/shop spend in 2nd club.

Why would a card be rejected unless it's cancelled or from an old account/club which is no longer active?

Can't see any issue here or any way this shows up a bandit. I have recently just thrown out a card from my old club that was in my wallet. If I took that out when signing in and swiped it by mistake I would be this guy in question.

Having two cards is no harm as mentioned. Member of two clubs and Cards used to pay in shop/bar of each club.

2 Handicaps however is a different story, no one guy in my club had two h/c. Off 1 in our place and 4 somewhere else (holiday home only played occasionally). Wondered how people would react if the Captains prize or the like was won by an Away member?

I suppose the point is with all the cheap membership deals, one could have 2 cards with different home addresses ie. your parents home and your current address.
Work on getting your hcp down on one and leave the other dormant for say Golf digest Volvo open (won by a 23hcp last year) Certainly a loop hole that needs closing.

We had a semi open at our club last weekend, four person team event.
It was one by one member with 3 guests from Mountain View. One of them was an 18 handicapper who had 4 birdies & 5 pars.

Not saying it's anything untoward but it could be said.....

And probably 9 scratches for 31 points and a .1 back if it was singles ;)

    I was joking.

That's just yet another example of team event banditry. A personal hate of mine that they can't get cut.

    I know you were.
    I can't abide it myself.

I would have thought that you would have only have 1 GUI number even if you had 2 cards. So there is nothing stopping me joining a club at home and getting a second Handicap just seems mad.

As others have said I have 2 cards with 2 different numbers but my handicap is at my home club. The only other time I use the second card is for the bar.

So there is no handicap attached to the second Card which is fine, but the actions of this guy lead to there being a check on all the entrants in the comp and it turns out 6 people don't have current GUI handicaps who had signed up. It is the 4ball in the European.

The first 4 digits of your gui are the code for your club so if a member of two you would have two gui numbers.

Very difficult one for the GUI to stamp out.
Quite possible there could be two people with same name and date of birth playing golf in different clubs. Bit of a stretch for them to be looking for Passport/PPS numbers to differentiate.

Unfortunately in a game based on honesty there are always a few bad eggs

How is that any different to a guy playing loads of practice golf and just not entering qualifying competitions (or pulling when he does) in order to improve himself for the big day

Its not except with 2 cards you could choose which one you wanted cut. Most clubs don't have the sign in with your card before you play rule. Which I think is a good rule. The heritage has that rule for Monday singles last time I played.:)
