When do these routes start? Winter 2014 would mean December?

Airline winter schedules traditionally begin at the end of October.

Ryanair serving Nice might have an effect on Aer Lingus whose monopoly on the route has lead to a sharp increase in fairs.

They've been serving NCE for a few years now, haven't been able to get past two weekly on EI last Summer. ;)

Why, which airline carries more passengers in Ireland than Ryanair?

    Quality not quantity.

Aer Lingus? Been the largest airline to/from Ireland for a few years now.

Pretty sure that'd be Aer Lingus.

I wish they would re open the aberdeen route. Since aer lingus have taken over prices have doubled or more and delays are the norm.

Prague and Nice are just reopening old routes, so not quite 'new'.

Ryanair will have 25 aircraft based in Dublin this summer schedule, they are in the process of hiring 50 new ground handlers to meet the demand

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,618 ✭✭✭IngazZagni

Pretty sure that'd be Aer Lingus.

Is it though? Are there official stats published online? This is the closest I could find. It shows seat capacity in summer 2012 and has Aer Lingus at 43.2% and Ryanair at 40%. As Ryanair had a higher load factor during these months, actual pax figures could be neck and neck. This summer I'm sure Ryanair will overtake.

I'm sure Nice is new for the winter schedule though, that's what this announcement was about.

Those are stats from 2012, does not account for continued growth in both L/H and S/H for EI ex-DUB in particular in later FY12, FY13 and into FY14 even with the Ryanair growth.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,980 ✭✭✭Growler!!!

Thought I read somewhere that ryanairs pax stats are based on seats sold.
Aer lingus bases numbers on actual bums on seats ie, those that turn up at the gate.

Not true, the figures for the pax travelled are taken from each completed loadsheet and given to the relevant people and airport authorities

In relation to stats from OCC from each airport in Ireland that is true, however an airline can give its own stats, Ryanair does it all the time!

Ryanair collect all its pax figures from the loadsheets of each flight, each loadsheet is sent to Dub and left in a big big room for months, all the figures of pax travelled are taken from official loadsheet figures. I'm not going to get into it with you because you obviously have a problem with Ryanair but all their pax figures are legitimate

How do I have a problem with Ryanair haha? They keep me employed far from it!

My point was they can throw out the booked pax figure an example is the job numbers they like to say they create with each expansion, when every tom dick and harry knows it's not near that.

i agree. aer lingus have gone to town with the fairs on this route. they charge an extortionate amount. they must think that oil companies are paying people to fly back and forth on this route or something. but it's far too much.

I could be wrong on this, but I believe the Aer Lingus Regional services which are operated by Aer Arann are priced by the later, Aer Lingus simply receives a franchise fee and has nothing to do with pricing of the route I understand!

For investors, what matters is how many have paid. Why would Aer Lingus not report the same way?

The following article shows the amount of available seats for Ryanair in 2013 which was approx 89 million seats.

    http://www.routesonline.com/news/29/breaking-news/240361/air-transport-capacity-in-western-europe-a-market-snapshot/

The following link shows Ryanair's own figures for calendar 2013 which shows about 81 million pax.

That could be very dangerous for the Aer Lingus brand since Regional flights come up on their booking system.

Generally the Regional flights seem to be more expensive than the "standard" Aer Lingus ones, but I had that down to it being the last few seats on smaller planes because the further ahead I have gone the more I see all flights starting at equal fares.

AND they only have the Regional (AerArann operated) aircraft which are tiny! Wish they did away with the smaller aircrafts and had the bigger ones - last time I was on one with my boyfriend he ended up sitting beside a BIG fella and he got squished by the window....i felt soo sorry for him...:(

I would have thought Aer Lingus and Aer Arann (now Stobart Air) agree to a pricing structure on Regional services, it's the Aer Lingus booking system after all. Either way the Regional base fares do tend to be a little higher apart from Dublin-Southend which is always to/from London.

The higher fares haven't exactly been detrimental to their growth though, most routes now have more business friendly frequencies and timings, a better sized aircraft for the market and sustainable fares. Aberdeen was unprofitable for Ryanair, they couldn't fill 189 seats and when Aer Lingus Regional turned up they were gone like a shot!

I don't really see how its dangerous as it's simply Aer Arann accounting for it's costs which EI has nothing to do with, anyhow its working for EI/RE as the Regional operations are extremely positive for both.

I recently had cause to use Ryanair and I must say how impressed I was with very few PAs, allocated seating, excellent quality croissant, friendly staff and unlike some other carriers (incl my own) my bags were there.
    Very impressed.
Certainly is my preferred Irish airline , and lots of eye candy unlike the Airbus operator!

Barring his desire for grumpy Latvian blondes it doesn't really not describe other carriers either - non-allocated seating was an anachronism of FRs that's been corrected

    @Myob

4 Irish/Czech stunners actually, not seen such a collection of models. No fat Biffas. Just Funny, Smiling, cuties without the double chins gruff barks of other Airlines I commute with. Not often I see Irish stunners tbh

I hadnt bought a regular ticket for years and it was a surprise. Even bought some nice gifts.

Most other times commuting on my non revs my bags have been misplaced by the longest 11 days that was BA. Lingus longest was 4 days. My own bag as operating Captain was offloaded and didnt reach me for 3 days (my own company)

With all the Ryanair bashing and mickey size posts from lots of posters here Im delighted tp have had a pleasant surprise on Irelands/prob Europes largest Airline . Have booked my next 3 positioners with them. I will look out for those Latvians thanks but my guess is theyve moved across the road! Or to Emirates maybe.

Most other times, really....? As in more than 50% of the times your bags have been misplaced? I have had my fair share of both short haul and long haul flights and very rarely had my bags misplaced, only twice in fact, both with Alitalia - one of the times for 90+ days I kid you not!

I wouldn't want to be on a plane driven by you with that level of maths / attention to details! :)

    Thats right
4 commutes per year. 3 lost in last 10 months. That Would be in excess of 50%?
I cudnt careless if you were onboard or not tbh.

I only came on here to say how impressed I was with my recent Ryanair experience. No need for personal attack. RrrElax! Go for some Points of Guinness!

Have you been commuting for the last 10 months only?!

Interesting logic and maths - I don't remember your original comment being qualified by "in the lasy 10 month", that does make a difference statistically and mathematically, doesn't it?!

Seriously, as an operating captain you should have a good grasp of logic and statistical concept of "average", and perfect attention to details, which I'm sure you do, so I can't see how you can make flippant remarks like that and stand by it and be offended when challenged.

Fair enough, your experience of the last 10 months is certainly an anomaly by all standards then.

You can find some stats on wikipedia and similar sources, for example : "In the United States, an average of 1 in 150 people have their checked baggage misdirected or left behind each year." Again in the US, "For April 2009 Atlantic Southeast Airlines was the top ranked for reports of mishandled baggage with 9.17 reports per 1000 passengers.[3]" which is below 1%, and certainly well below 75%!

Thanks for the recommendation to visit Wiki but I prefer to just accept my own companies and codeshare companies figures published monthly on our crew site.
Better that way .......... with paying proper attention to detail as you suggested! etc! Best believe the company propaganda.

Sorry I contributed anything on this site now. Just isnt worth it tbh. Too much hastle. Glad i dont take the internet trolls as being anything but cast members in the Muppets.
