    It's only two weeks ago!

Who's going to challenge The New One in the Aintree Hurdle? Zarkandar will surely line up again.

Any chance we might see Annie Power or UDS in this race?

    Not a chance I'd imagine.

I'd say if Annie Power runs again it will be in the Grade 1 mares race at Punchestown.

And Un De Sceux won't be going over 2m 4f.

The New One would blitz the two of them anyway.

Yeah I can't see anything getting near him in this one. He will slaughter Zarkandar this year.

First Lieutenant set for repeat Bowl bid

First Lieutenant is likely to defend his crown in the Betfred Bowl at Aintree next month following his late withdrawal from last week's Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Mouse Morris' star chaser was due to line up in the blue riband event for the first time last Friday, but was taken out on the morning of the race after not eating up.

The Fethard-based trainer feels his nine-year-old may have been at Prestbury Park too long and hopes his charge can gain compensation on Merseyside on April 3.

Morris said: "He came home OK, but just OK. He lost a bit of weight during the trip, but hopefully he'll be all right in a few days.

"I think I probably had him over in Cheltenham too long. He went over there on the Sunday before, so he was there nearly a week and maybe we should have waited a bit longer before sending him over.

"It was disappointing, but we move on and if the ground is all right, he'll probably go back to Aintree.

"The ground would have to be right - he wouldn't go if it came up soft - so we'll see which way the weather goes over the next couple of weeks.

"If all goes well, he could do Aintree and Punchestown."

Not so sure, he wasn't that far away at the 2nd last. All the Champion proved is that he really should win this over 2m4f..

Hard to see anything beating First Lieutenant in the 3m chase. Has the makings of a nice double..

Agree, the pace horses pulled away from him and he was coming back at the end but he definitely lost lenghts by being tapped for toe rather than it all being down to the fall.

Whatever about the older division hurdlers, I will be backing Activial despite the irish jeuvenile hurdle's form standing up better last week (tiger roll/guitar pete)

I posted in another thread that Ned Buntline could be very interesting off just a 4lb higher mark than in the Grand Annual if he runs in the 2m handicap. Fota Island ran in (and won it) although that horse won the Grand Annual

Will be interesting to see who reopposses from Cheltenham, Next Sensation ran well despite the over exuberance & mistake may have cost Claret Cloak.

The 2 mile handicap will be won by Tataniano, if he runs.. Fingers crossed

I fairness he must be my most profitable trainer.. This one reeks of plot and i was gutted he didn't run in cheltenham.. But he gave by far his best performance at Aintree so maybe it just makes sense.

I think if you look at the finish in the CH he was showing his turn of speed and had he got to do that a bit closer to the two boys then he'd have won. Hard to say tho.

I like that double too :D

Need Annie Power to turn up and make the market for The New One, otherwise he will start 4/9

Any firms likely to have ante post betting on the Foxhunters? Can't wait to get stuck into Mossey Joe and First Lieutenant, will be having two nice singles and a double!

Jesus if they all turned up we might get odds against The New One

    HF certainly won't I'd imagine.

Annie Power probably not but a chance.

After that opposition is pretty thin.

Hurdle race has cut up as expected.
Surprised Zarkandar doesn't run after winning last year.

And for people who said the Champion Chase was bad The Melling Chase is far worse.

Looks like it's going to be a poor meeting.

If the new one doesnt show up which is a possibility after the champion like many others in previous years I think diakali could spring a surprise.

On The Fringe not declared for the Foxhunters, there goes any chance of a decent price about Mossey Joe!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

The 2 and half mile novice chase has cut up pretty badly as well,

    Dodging Bullets
    Fox Appeal
    Oscar Whisky
    Uxizandre
    Western Warhorse

That's a really poor novice hurdle tomorrow. Josses Hill should be a strong favourite.

If there's ever been a worse Grade 1 run at a spring festival than the Melling I can't remember
