    Hey guys,

Got a few fillings done in a dentise a week ago and was told that I need wisdom teeth out that they were decayed. I, myself, honestly can not see it or how tbh (I was at another dentist last summer and nothing was said.), I also have not had much if any problems with them.

Anyway, got an Xray and was forwarded to a consultant. Just got a private appointment and unfortunately it will cost 170 + 50 for an xray. My insurance would cost the surgery after but I am pretty sure not the consultation, or probably that craic of claiming back money at the end of the year jobbie.

I noticed this consultant is also in the public hospital, is it possible to just get an appointment that way (As it would be free). If so, how long would I be waiting? Bear in mind I have no issues with my wisdom teeth myself. I wonder how common it is for a consultant to give the all clear after the dentist

€220 for a consultation and xray is above the norm. €150 is the going rate.
Some insurance companies give you something towards consultations but you need to look at your excess etc, don't expect much....

Expect to pay a top up on the private hospital day theatre too....

You could request to see the same guy publicly but generally public waiting lists are over 1-2 years for a consultation and then you wait again for the treatment...

You may not be having symptoms at present but teeth can decay silently and later when they cause pain its too late... often the wisdom tooth can decay and decay the adjacent tooth, leave it too long and you may need a filling/ root canal or extraction of this adjacent tooth...

    Good luck,
    OS

i had to get two wisdom teeth out because they were very difficult to access therefore near impossible to clean. I initially wanted to get it done under general anaesthetic in hospital as i was afraid it would hurt too much if done in dentist. i got a consultant review in a public hospital, but he advised me i could be waiting up to a year for the surgery.
so i just went ahead and had them removed by the dentist under local anaesthetic.
for me turned it out to be a better idea, much shorter waiting time and the procedure itself wasn't that bad at all
i currently have braces on and have had no problem claiming tax back
