Am I Reading The Cost of This Right?

    Hey Folks,

Did a quick search but didn't see anything recent since Ryanair updated a lot of their processes and costs.

It's been a while since I paid for baggage with them but I can't get over the cost of bringing a 20kg bag to Poland and back. It's €35 each way, meaning to bring a bag there and back would cost €70. I don't ever remember it being this expensive before. Does that sound about right? I thought it used to be about €40 for both ways?

    €70 seems really excessive.

Yep. Sounds about right. I paid 30 quid to take a bag one way from Edinburgh to Dublin over Christmas. Whether you are traveling at peak or off peak times factors into the cost also.

Wow, thanks for that folks. I couldn't justify that so I guess they'll be getting zero baggage fees so.

Booked flights to Lanzarote a couple of weeks ago and the baggage fees pushed the cost of the flights waaay beyond what Aer Lingus were looking for (and that was 20kg bags on Aer Lingus but only 15kg bags on Ryanair).

Their baggage fees don't just vary seasonally, they also cost more if you're going to the Canary Islands or Greece!

It might be worth looking at going to Poland via SAS (through Stockholm or elsewhere). Depending on where you're going and factoring in Ryanair's bags, it can work out cheaper, plus a 23kg allowance.

That looks about right, Ryanair have huge baggage fees for checked luggage as they are trying to phase it out altogether. I would highly recommend getting a good carry on bag that will store lots. I got this one from Argos: http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/9139367/Trail/searchtext%3ELUGGAGE.htm

and it's the best carry on bag I've used (expensive, but I managed to get it half price before). I carried 8 days worth of clothes on a trip last November as well as extras like tablet, phone charger etc, and even fit in a couple of small things to bring back. Also, with Ryanair's relaxing of cabin bags, you could always bring an extra plastic or small bag and chuck some extra clothes in if you're stuck for space.

I guess it just depends on how long you're going and what you need to bring!

Which is Ryan's baggage policy working exactly as designed. In their perfect world, no one would ever take hold luggage, and if you really need to, they are going to penalise you.
