    Hello,
I recently needed to send a small jiffy pad envelope to Australia, and the exact same the next day ( was selling the same object twice on ebay ). My local post office charged me two different rates on the two days ( was classed as small packet one day and a letter the next ).

Now i have a very similar item to post to the UK, if i just judge the postage and stick it on and sent it, would that be ok?
Suppose my question is, once the packet is in the system can it ever be rejected for incorrect postage?

Postage is charged by size and weight. If there was no variation due to extra stuffing, etc then you probably just got lucky or unlucky depending on the item and the mood of the postal worker.

As for getting rejected due to in-sufficient postage I don't know how likely it is, but I expect it's possible.

But why take the risk? The minimum and maximum sizes and weights for each type of postal item (letter, large envelope, parcel, packet) are detailed here : http://www.anpost.ie/AnPost/What+Are+You+Sending+Details.htm#letter. Once you know the type and weight you can calculate the correct postage at http://postage.anpost.ie/
