How to buy Amazon ebooks for my Sony ereader?

    Hi folks,

If I'm in the wrong place please advise...

I've had a sony ereader for the past 20 mnths or so and as a piece of technology I'm very happy with it BUT buying ebooks is a nightmare.

The sony e-store is supposed to open some time in the future, meantime, I can't buy off amazon, easons was the e-stockist but now it seems to they only provide for kobo & eitherway, everything from easons is seriously overpriced. Other stockists are waterstones uk but when I go to buy there at least 50% of ebooks are 'unable to be sold (to Ireland) due to territorial issues' - I assume sony wanna keep those rights for themselves even though they're not even selling ebooks here as yet???

So, does anyone know is some piece of software - an app - whatever that could help me convert an ebook from amazon so I can read on my sony ereader cause otherwise it is an almost useless piece of technology.

    Thank you very much.

    Yabbadabbadoo x

Sign up for an amazon account if you haven't already, then download calibre, it's a great ebook software then google for kindle dedrm. It's an add-on for calibre that will strip the drm from your amazon books and convert them into the right format for your e-reader. You will also need KIndle for PC and your amazon account.

I can't really go into any more detail here but google will give you more info anyway.

There are 2 main different ebook formats, .mobi and .epub, one works on some devices, and the other works on other devices. I think though if you have bought an amazon ebook it comes in a propriety format, .azw which probably has DRM copyright stuff on it too.

Calibre is a free and legal piece of format conversion software that you can try. I think sony -readers can read .epub format books, so if you can convert something to that format you should be fine. I can't go into illegal methods on here whereby you can acquire nearly any book, but if you are someone who does not like doing that, you should at least consider doing it for books you have purchased legally but can't view on your device, as no matter your morals, surely that wouldn't offend them?

There are many places that google can send you to in order to find out how to do this if you wish, but we can't go into it here.

All good advice nearly offered, definitely ways and means legitimate and otherwise around OP's issue, it reminds me a bit of 37.jpg

Aaaaaargh, I'm so frustrated & annoyed... finally got set up. Registered kindle for pc on amazon, did a trial run dropping the freebies they give you ('Aesops Fables' etc.) into calibre, converting to epub & then via the Sony Reader for PC app onto my sony reader... that worked fine.
Then I bought a book I really wanted off Amazon... all happy... but calibre can't remove the DRM...!!! When I go to convert it says 'book is locked by DRM'.
So unfair. What can I do next?

    Thanks xx

It's easy enough, I had to do it on linux which was more difficult, Windows is much easier for it tho.
    Good luck.
