Feeling let down by hairdresser!

So I went to my regular hairdresser to get hair touched up at roots. The owner advised me badly as I wanted to go a bit lighter, however the colour didn't take and the grey was not covered sufficiently.
I rang up to inform and ask if they could rectify the problem. This has happened before but the last time I was told the colour needed to be left on for longer. The problem was solved the next day without a fuss.
I was told, in no uncertain terms, that they would dye it for free, but I would have to pay for the blow dry. Now I'm not a cheapskate.
However I do not feel, in the interest of good customer service, that I should have to pay for the blow-dry.
Have I a leg to stand on?

Really bad form that they're making you pay for the blow dry considering they didn't leave the dye on long enough. I don't know what kind of rights you have but I'd be arguing it.

If they are going to dye it for free then they are acknowledging it was not done properly. I think it's really bad form that they say you should pay for the blowdry and shows a complete disregard for you as a loyal customer. If it were me I'd ring and tell them this and if their position doesn't change I'd tell them they'd lost a customer and go elsewhere. A good hairdresser wouldn't let a customer leave with grey hairs showing and wouldn't do something that didn't cover the grey. Plenty of places looking for business who do a good job and value customers.

Exact same thing happened to me in Occ@ssions. I went in telling then I wanted my greys covered, I had taken a bad reaction to the dye so they could only do highlights as it didn't touch my scalp.

They did my hair late at night so I didn't notice, when I rang the next day they said that's a given with highlights.

I told them the whole reason I went was to cover greys and they had decided to do highlights.

Same thing, they wouldn't do a blow dry. I went in, the girl fixed it as if she was doing me a huge favour, because I love sitting in hairdressers with her at my hair.

The girl who took me from the sink wouldn't let me leave without giving it a little blow dry, she was lovely and i made a huge fuss of giving her a tip.

why not go in, let them fix it and dye over it, brush your wet hair, take off excess water with a towel then tie it up and dry at home and make a point of telling them they have lost a customer and you will go elsewhere from now on.

why on earth did they let you leave with grey showing thats mad

That's bad form for a business to treat loyal customers like that! I would speak to the manager face to face and tell them they did not carry out the service to standard. If they still refuse tell them one word on social media can give them a bad reputation.
