Given this is the open source forum I assume you're looking for an open source map to use?

    Try http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=8/53.943/-8.723

I'm not sure how you can format it to print A3, but it has a good level of detail, especially for bigger roads.

Lads, if you make a map please share it, so I won't have to do the same thing again :-)

Big Map (it takes a while to load all the tiles):
    http://openstreetmap.gryph.de/bigmap.cgi?xmin=963&xmax=993&ymin=643&ymax=681&zoom=11&scale=64&baseurl=http%3A%2F%2Ftile.openstreetmap.org%2F!z%2F!x%2F!y.png#

Wow! Great work. Is there any way to export it to Jpg, tiff or any other compatible extension with Photoshop. I cant find it, when I try to save the image, it just saves the tile, not the whole map. Any ideas? Thank you in advance.

I have pdf and png, but they are 30+ MB each, so I can't upload it to boards as a normal user.

I used CutePDF and gimp to make them. CutePDF was making pdfs with white "holes" in random locations, so I used gimp to overlap 4 exports to make a complete map.

Send me a PM if you want the files - I'll email them if your box can handle that file size or my private server with a download link.

    How to make a map:

    1. Go to: http://openstreetmap.gryph.de/bigmap.html
    2. Select interesting area
    3. Click Submit
    4. Use in/double size and out/halve size to get required level of details or image size
    5. Adjust the area to show what you want using expand/shift/shrink/
    6. Hide the control panel
    7. Print map to pdf (CutePDF)

Steps 6 & 7 can be replaced with auto-generated perl script. Running on linux:

    6. Download the script (click "Perl" link)
    7. Add "executable" using 'chmod a+x mkmap.pl'
    8. run ./mkmap.pl > map.png (output has to go to a file otherwise it will be printed to terminal and that equals mess)

I had something similar on Fedora, had to "yum install perl-GD" - it'll be something similar on mac.
