Which should I use??which is better?
I have a garmin edge 305 for the bike and an iPhone if going for a run(unlikely!).
It works on both of them.

Strava has segments and a better social connection i think

Nothing to stop you using both, one being the backup for the other.

I back up to both but rely on Strava

Strava, but periodically loading your fit files to Garmin en masse as a backup is a solid idea as per godtabh

I use both also. Segments are good and the analysis is better on strava.

I use Strava for actual cycling spins and use Garmin as an overall repository for everything - e.g. all my turbo spins are saved on connect and I also use Garmin for creating courses to upload to my GPS

Thanks all...Ill do the same...actually have everything on both as it stands.

Actually if you have been using garmin connect and want to get all your files over to Strava here is a neat little script to pull them all out of Garmin and into a zip folder of TCX files ready for upload to Strava (can do 25 at a time so shouldnt take long)
Ye prob all know about it!1...ive been off the saddle too long :)

If you upload your stuff to Garmin connect as usual, you can then use this website https://tapiriik.com/ to transfer your garmin data to Strava. There's 2 options, for a small fee it's done automatically for you, but the manual free version just requires you to click a button.

The following article gives a good break down on moving your garmin data to other sites but I found tapiriik easiest

edited to include the proper article outlining the various methods to transfer garmin connect data, I entered the tapiriik one twice.

Or use copymysports.com for automatic upload from garmin to strava

at this point i only upload my edge500 data to garmin as i like to have my runs and spins logged together. tbh, if i wasnt running as well id nearly bypass connect and only use strava, i look forward to analyzing my spins via the segments on strava whereas i just feel obliged to log the data on connect as ive been doing it for years.

unless you want your historical runs, strava handles runs as well as spins. Seperate segments for runs as well

i see that, but i dont tend to run many different routes so not as bothered, last time i logged a run on strava i had killed myself up a hill in dalkey and it didnt recognize the segment. nearly had a heart attack for nothing

I was going to post this, do it once and its automatic thereafter.

I just use the garmin for everything now and it pops up in strava soon afterwards!

If u are using a garmin and u have an iPad, theres an app called "connect stats" which once setup, allows you to sync your garmin connect activities to strava.
