    Hey!

So for anyone who's been out of the loop, Samsung has released the U28D590 and its around ~€560 on ebay

The big deal here is 60hz (via DP1.2) without additional adapters/multiple-HDMI inputs etc nonsense.

    299206.jpg

    Specifications:

    • Size with stand (W x H x D ) : 660.9x486.3x169.4 (mm)
    • Without stand (W x H x D ): 660.9x410.0x64.7 (mm)
    • Packaging (W x H x D ): 794x452x109 (mm)
    • Display Screen Size: 70.8cm
    • Aspect ratio: 16:09
    • Panel Type: TN
    • Brightness: 300cd/m2
    • Contrast Ratio: 1000:1 (Typ)
    • Resolution: 3840x2160 @ 60hz with DP1.2
    • Response Time: 1ms (GTG)
    • Color Support : 1B
    • Inputs: DP, 2xHDMI
    • Viewing Angle (H / V ): 170 ° / 160 °
*specs not guaranteed correct and subject to change.

Im still trawling for more solid info, but it looks pretty good. Im not a fan of the TN but i understand these are actually LG manufactured as Samsung cant compete with its IPS or PLS tech in this price.

Youre going to need some serious beef to run these at any respectable framerate.
My GTX 690 is getting fairly hammered in ARMA3 at 1440p, so I think games like that are going to be unplayable for most rigs at 4k, but you cant say no to 70PPI:pac:

Ill definitely give it a go, and throw in quadsli to see how bad scaling is at that res.:p

Nice. 1ms response too. Pity it's TN.

    Any reviews for it?

You would want at least dual 290's for that.

I like the Price. Cheaper then most 1440p panels right now. Though running such panel for games is impossible unless you won the Lotto or Two. :pac:

Yep, 4K will be sweet when the gpu power catches up. For now I'm more intrigued by the upcoming Asus ROG 1440p / 144Hz g-sync panel. You can run high FPS with ULMB (ultra-low motion blur), or crank Crysis 3 to the max settings and still look smooth as silk if FPS dips down to 30's or 40's.

not a fan of TN myself, but 10bit colour probably makes up some way for the flaws.

no reviews that i can find yet.

up for preorder on amazon.com here and newegg.

this. Id be hard pushed to recommend a 1440p now with these so reasonably priced.

you could always game in 1440p on it for anything very GPU bound for now :o

It must be like looking out a window.

The PPI is 157 not 70.

Aye, we are a bit Ghetto indeed. :( Pesky 1080p screens... At least we are not Pea***** with Godly 720p :pac:

We really need to see whats the story with next GPUs and if they will be just a slight bump in performance with a BUMP in price tag again or we will really get something more powerful and smarter with Directx 12 and Mantle.

4K monitors are really nice, but they are feck all good if you cant even run games at 60 fps.

A pair of 290's would handle it no problem.
