    Hi all,

Am trying to trade in my Peugeot 206, 88,000 miles, (1.1 engine, petrol). NCT due April 2014. Passed each previous NCTs first time. It is running well but has a very stiff back door and the exhaust would need a job done to it(rust).

I've been looking for a Golf and found this tempting offer:

The dealer accepts trade ins. I am just wondering how much I should look to pay along with the Peugeot... will be paying the balance in cash.

Would really appreciate any help/advice. Thanks in advance!

tbh, (you didn't say what year the Pug is), but it'd be worth very little. I'd flog it on DoneDeal or the like and put the cash towards a straight offer on the Golf.

Cash buyer is in the best negotiating position when buying these days

Thanks for your reply. The car is 2004. I get what you're saying but I can't be without a car so flogging it off and then getting another car ain't a possibility.

    Thanks again!

A figure of around €6750 or thereabouts is what I would be thinking. I'm not really certain though.

You can do the NCT up to 3 months before the current one expires, this would give you a little more bargaining power either as a trade in ir selling privately.

Will your funds allow you to buy the golf straight and then sell the 206 privately? With a new NCT you would get between 2-2.5k privately. (i.e the opposite to what For Forks Sake said)
