Hi I previously posted on here looking at the best small petrol car on the market. At the time I was looking to buy a older car for around €2000 but I've decided to trade in my current car which is a 2006 VW passat 1.9tdi, it has 122000 miles. My situation has changed with work and I'm not doing much millage anymore, just nipping around town now so there's no need for the diesel passat. I'm looking to upgrade in years to a 2008 and just get a small petrol engine car. 1/1.2 litre will do. I'm willing to add €2000 with my own car. Does anyone have an recommendation on the most reliable/economical car out there?

    Thanks

Passat 1.4 TSI? I know it's not small, but it's a good alternative.

122k miles on a diesel is nothing, especially 1.9 TDI.

what about a Daihatsu sirion? They are very well built and reliable.

1.4 civic hatchback would be lovely for nipping around town. Also Kia ceed or Hyundai i30 might be a good option. There would be very little difference in tax or mpg between any of the above and a supermini like a fiesta but they will be nicer to drive.

yes they are very good cars. Aim for an early to mid 08 example though as they are on the cc tax system and are cheaper to tax than the Co2 equivalent afaik.
