Is it ok to wear one as a guest at a wedding please?

Unless black tie is stipulated, I think it is fine if you are wearing it with a suit or blazer/trousers combo.

Personally, I'm not mad about them - I saw George Hook wearing one on the panel after the Irish win on Saturday -just didn't do it for me!

Nah, its a bit 1970s... modern menswear, for all its looking back, hasn't hugely embraced it. If you wanted to go more casual you could just do the white shirt / navy suit Tom Ford look... or wear a more muted tie done "sprezzatura" style (meaning, the inside blade is longer than the main part).

OR one other option would be to get a bright, vibrant, fun paisley tie.
