I've been looking around and cannot seem to find any course that are specific to Sports journalism, I was wondering if there are any? Or is it basically just journalism in general.

Just journalism from what I remember.

However, a better way into sports journalism is to do a journalism course following on from your degree, i.e. do a course in something like Sports Management or Sports Psychology first.
Ireland is full to the brim with sports hacks, so having a niche first and then expanding on it is better than just doing a ten-a-penny journalism course.

Start now though and get writing for free with people like these...if you're a soccer fan:
    http://backpagefootball.com/
    http://outsideoftheboot.com/
Get yourself on twitter and try to engage with other football writers from these sites and build upon it. Will take a while, but nothing worth having took a short time.

    Best of luck

Thanks for the advice, will take that on board. Oddly enough I already write for BPF that you linked there. Sports management sounds interesting aswell, Thanks!

Good advice Matt, although there's only 2 or 3 institutions offering Level 8 journalism degrees in Ireland, and the minimum entry points is over 400. So they're not exactly ten-a-penny. In fact, you'd be doing well to get offered a place on one of them, particularly in DCU.

Yea, for sure they would not be something you should turn your nose up at, but if you don't get into them I would explore other options.
Try and get in with a local paper/radio station too, just keep in mind that Ireland's a small place and try to start building up your contacts now and you'll already be a good bit ahead of the rivals that you'll be studying with.
Tis cut-throat out there, but if you put in the graft the opportunities will eventually come :)
