Android Wear

Google have just announced their off-shoot version of Android for wearable devices called Android Wear.

There doesn't seem to be a huge amount of information out at the moment, only that it offers context sensitive information similar to Google Now along with voice input.

LG and Motorola have both announced their first gen Wear devices and truth be told the Moto 360 is one phenomenal looking device. Motorola released the Aura about three years ago, one of the first (if not the first) phone with a circular LCD display. They seem to have taken the same technology and put it on a watch. Round displays look stunning.

I don't think I'll go for a gen one device, but if Motorola succeeds with the 360 then the v2 might be on the purchase list next year.

No videos on the LG offering.

That Moto 360 looks gorgeous so far. Could be an amazing year ahead of us.

Sexy sexy sexy. Absolutely love the look of the Moto 360 and the LG G Watch.

More please! I do hope that the services are good enough for use over here.

    Oh, and obligatory:

More info coming out now, Android Developer Preview is showing design guidelines and UI details.

I'm interested to see how much battery life these things can pack in and if they'll support the myriad of sensors that exercise / life smart-bands sport today.

Have to say they look decent and better than the Samsung offering. The ui looks useable. Although Google now doesn't like my accent. And my diction is not the worse.

The battery life and type of screen they use is what I'm concerned about. Screen has to be OLED or AMOLED otherwise it'll look terrible in low/zero light conditions. Additionally, sapphire glass must be considered. Gorilla glass just can't take the sort of punishment the face on a wristwatch gets.

I've been fairly meh about smart watches, but I've been looking at the moto 360 for the last couple of weeks and just love it. The metallic band version looks great.

If it has good battery life and priced somewhere around $350, I'm all over it.

Anyone know any shops where you can see the 360, g watch r or smartwatch3 in person?

Unfortunately that's quite unlikely for a while. I would love to see/play with a 360 and GWR in person before buying. A friend has the 360 so I'll see him at Xmas and judge then.

I'm honestly probably going to wait for the second generation of these devices so more of the "kinks" have been ironed out.

True it was years until you could easily see any android phones, but the SM3 (despite coming from sony) looks like it is the 2nd generation of android wear especially since it will get 2.0 software soon but would like to see it before buying it.

Appears Tag are now getting in on the game, Id imagine they are trying to kill apple dead in this sector.

Shouldnt be hard, I have not got a clue why their watches gets any plaudits for style because i just dont see it. The design is nothing new, it doesnt actually look contemporary. Its a rehashed nano design.

Just picked up a Sony Smartwatch 3 in argos.

Still finding my way around it but it was a toss up between that and the LG R for me.

I went with the Sony because of the built in GPS, WiFi readiness, the fact that I can use a normal charger and the higher waterproofing rating.

Now if only it looked like the LG!

Useful app recommendations welcome, I must fire up tasker again and start doing silly things :-)
