Hi, does anybody know how much it would cost to repair the front steering rack & pinion that is worn on a 2005 Ford Focus?

Is it the rack or just an inner tie rod?

(My guess: NCT says wear on nearside R&P?)

its an inner tie rod. I'm looking to buy a car & seller says it needs this to pass test.

An inner tie rod end is a pittance really, about €40 for a spurious part plus an hours labour. I got one replaced for €75 recently. If I was selling I would just replace it and get the NCT done as the car is more valuable and sellable with it, especially considering the part is so cheap.

Sounds to me like their could be something else (more expensive) wrong with it...

Closer to 20 quid plus labour.

He states on ad that it needs E150 to pass the test. He says it only has to be retested on that. I asked why not get that done himself & sell then & he says it was December & he hadn't the money. But haven't you only something like 28 days to have your vehicle retested otherwise it has to go through full test again?
