Audi A4 2.0 Purchase

    Hey all,

I am considering purchasing an Audi A4 2 litre TDI. My budget is about €20,000 and I know that I can get a 2010/11 model for this with decentish mileage.

I just recently passed my driving test so not sure in terms of insurance etc. and if an AUdi with above specs would be too high for Full Comp. I am a 22 year old male.

I just want to seek some advice with respect to the above and as to whether you think the above would be a good purchase. Thanks in advance :)

I'd say the insurance premium will be tasty. Best to ring around and get some quotes first.

Personally I'd be buying something a little cheaper and possibly smaller because as an inexperienced driver you WILL have a couple of tips in it, hopefully nothing more.

Better to do damage to something that didn't cost a whole lot than wreck a 20k car.

If you're spending that amount of money on a car, you really will want fully comp on it - unless you can afford to possibly cover the cost of any accidents/tips yourself

I'd imagine insurance will be pricey anyway given your age, the car in question, and the fact that you will fit their "high risk potential boy racer" category.

If you're asking advice on whether to go for it given the above, I'd have to say no (sorry!) but I do admire your tastes! :)

I pay 10-12% more for insurance on 08 a4 tdi 143 ps than I would say on an Avensis, and I've full 8+ years no claim, license for nearly 20 years and no points. So I'd imagine you'll pay a very hefty premium!

    I have a few questions:

    1. 20k? How much drugs you sell?

    2. Can i have some?

    3.Is that you Jack Reynor?

    All joking aside,
For the extra 1000 the insurance will cost for fully comp, it is better than forking out 3 or 4 thousand for repairs if you ding or scratch paintwork.

In saying that, I've never held a fully comp policy and never needed it in 7 years of driving.

Choosing full comp insurance when spending €20k on a car should be a no brainer imo. If you cannot afford full comp on a car of that value then chances are you will not be able to afford fixing your own car in the event of you being responsible for damaging it.

My advice is that if full comp insurance is too expensive presently then consider buying a car a few grand cheaper and put the difference towards insuring it full comp.
