    Hi lads .
I want to buy a secondhand bike from a guy in England , he wants me to recommend a courier , does anybody know a cheap way of doing this ? I am tight for cash so hope I can close the deal within my budget . Be grateful for any advice .

I've used http://www.shiply.com/ for a few bulky items off ebay.

You're kind of rolling the dice as it's usually random pick ups by the courier so your bike could be in with a load of feathers or it could be in with a load of bowling balls if ya get me.

I've shipped large fibreglass items with them though and yet to have anything broken.

    It's worth getting a quote.

ask him to ship it in 2 frame boxes, then try parcel2go.com for a quote based on dimensions. the price jumps dramatically for a full sized bike box but the frame boxes can ship for as little as 20 stg each.

Parcel motel, but you would probably have to collect it from their depot. He ships to their Belfast address and they transfer it to depot for 3.50 usually

But with parcelmotel there is still the same original question - what carrier to use to ship the bike in the first place from the UK.

Parcelmotel will effectively take the package from Belfast but you still have to get it there.

Also, from experience the cost in respect of large items can become quite high and much higher than 3.50 - as it is based on "dimensional weight" as opposed to actual weight. Basically the larger the package irrespective of weight the higher the cost.

I got a bike sent from Ireland to London overnight with shiply for 100 quid, that'd be your best bet

I got an l200 rear canopy from leeds to Dublin with shiply for £35 this wasn't a small item. I still don't know how he made any money off it.

www.shiply.com or www.anyvan.ie is going to be your best bet. I have used both and never had a problem with either shipping stuff from England to Ireland.

Hales freight are worth a call. I haven't used them in a while but they were usually reasonably cheap and fast
