Working while huingover

How do people go to work/college/anywhere while hungover? Do they exaggerate how hungover they really are?

I've a slight headache and I'm contemplating leaving college because there's only one other besides myself in, and really, the only place I'm fit for is bed.

How do you good people of Boards do it? :(

Used to do it when I was younger.

Never, ever do it now. Just not worth it. I'm fresh as a daisy today! :D

    "Huingover"

    Is that a new word?

"Huingover" (N) (Pronounced hewingover)A hangover also including copious dry heave vomiting with additional promises of "Never again"

There are two types of people in the world.

    1) People who complain and moan openly

2)People who complain and moan privately.

The ones who go to work and say they are dying are in category No1

If you have a headache take some painkillers and just keep drinking water. I can't really function at all while hungover and really can't get any work done so I usually just stay at home unless there is something I absolutely have to go into college for.

don't forget to do some gentle excersize like having a walk and get some fresh air into you. The other advice has been said.

Sounds like how a person who has a south Dublin Dort accent would pronounce it .

When I was younger a hangover was grand, head down get on with it, as I work in IT, those days were 90% headphones days, plenty of fluids and a tasty lunch not too heavy. Usually get loads done.

Now mid 30's try not to draw attention to it and if work is down that day, make up for it next day. Kids have me up at ridiculous a'clock anyway.

Yesterday was the first Paddy's Day in eight years that I didn't drink (had work commitments). Must say it was an odd experience getting up this morning without a hangover and with my wallet still intact.

If you had a proper hangover you would have not made it out of the bed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,143 ✭✭✭flanzer

And then there are the mad fookers who head to the gym/cycle/strenuous activity on the day of a hangover? Surely you doing yourself more damage by doing that? Even as an 18 year stupid fooker, I wasn't doing that

    I struggled.

I usually can't make it out of bed, that's the thing.
I was wondering how other people manage to me 'absolutely dying' and work that morning.

I have done it a lot, and usually running around at work will cure the hangover for me. It's not really worth it though, unless the night out was a great one.

Nothing worse than the queasy hangover when you work with food though.

that kind of carry on would put terrible pressure on an alcohol soaked system

    i'm hungover now at work.
ploughed through lucozade earlier and now on the junk food.

I'm ignoring people and visiting the jacks quite a bit to waste time.

My pride won't let me admit that I overdid it, and the guilt makes me work even harder. I'm in category 3: People who over-compensate to fcuk. :)

Tonne of water and a coffee.. A codeine as well if it's terrible. I can't really miss work or I risk losing the job so have to brave through it.

    Happens less often now though.

I found it easier to deal with a hangover when I worked in hospitality than when I worked in an office. In hospitality I was constantly busy so didn't have time to feel sorry for myself, whereas when I was just sitting in front of a computer for eight hours the time dragged and made it feel even worse.

Dioralyte, vitamin c tablet and at least 1 litre of water before bed. Another 2 litre beside the bed for when you wake up about 5am to take a piss and get another litre into you.
Have the remainder of the bottle when you wake up in the morning and 1/2 panadol if it's particularly bad.

You'll still be as rough as a badger's arse but after you've had breakfast you should be alright.

Ivor from Damo and Ivor said it best:

"Oh my gawd... OrTE whyyy are you filming me again. I'm TOTES dying here. Would you not just give us a bit of respect and let a man rest in peace..."

If I wake up and I'm still hammered I can be quite proactive though. At least until I sober up and the hangover kicks in.

Working as such isn't that bad actually, but the 1-hour commute into work on the bike :pac:

That'd be me. I'd go the gym, wouldn't get much done at all but I'd be soaked in sweat, that's a good portion of the alcohol out of my system. Have a shower, then some porridge, orange juice and a takeaway later coupled with an early night.

When I was younger I would hide out in the jacks for 20 minutes every hour until I recovered enough to function. Luckily, we had nice cold sinks in each stall right at forehead-level.

Now I just call in sick. No point in even going in.

My advice is actually too not eat too much and keep a constant drip of caffine and sugars but not too much caffine that you spike, while you need to eat a bit to keep the energy levels up resist the urge to fill up because then the digestion kicks in and you'l crash bad (IMO its generally the tiredness thats the killer). Also stay cold.

I would get fired and quite possibly jailed if i showed up with a hangover, so its something that I seriously avoid :)

I can never understand how people can drink coffee the next day. A lot of a hangover it because of dehydration and if I drink coffee or any other caffeine drink, it makes it worse. I crave water but it tasted like battery acid so I have to put cordial in it.

I can't stomach coffee when I'm hungover. A greasy Big Mac, yes. But never coffee.
