Beggers can't be choosers, might not be the one you are looking for or pays the right money, but it gets you out of bed in the mornings! stay with it until the job you are looking for comes along.

Research career guidance. There are online tools that can help figure out what jobs you might be suited to.

The fact that it's a short contract means it's not a life sentence per se so try and stick it out a little longer. It's amazing how all those intimidating and unsettling thoughts in the early days of a job gradually disappear as you settle into a routine and become familiar and knowledgable on what you have to do. It may be that you haven't already been given certain tasks or fully optimized while you are still new and perhaps you may enjoy the role further once you are given more interesting things to do.

Ironically, you fear a contract extension which means your employer would be pleased with your performance. That is not a bad thing! This would be an excellent validation when you do interview for future roles elsewhere. Being able to tell an interviewer that your contract was extended would give them faith that you are a capable employee.

If you do choose to leave the job, try and find another job while in this job as you know the saying that it's easier to find a new job while in a job.

Is this your first job? Maybe the shock of having responsibility is getting to you. Are you really sure you don't want to work in this area - maybe a job in the same industry but with another employer might not be so bad.

If you don't have something else lined up for when this contract ends I assume you'll be going onto the dole.

Why not look on this job and the next ones as a means to an end. A way to get work experience and put food on the table and save up some money while you research what career path you would like to take.

Do the best job you can, and if they offer to extend the contract accept it, meanwhile, be applying for jobs you think you might like.

There is some truth to the saying "It's easier to get a job if you have a job".
