Okay so I'll be in the market for my first (starting abit late) :o car mid July.

    Experience:full license for 1yr & 4 years named drivers experience (age 21)

No need for a big boot and no kids.. Yet:rolleyes:

    My mileage
    : 400.773 P/W

Roads that will be traveled on
: National roads mainly. No city driving whats so ever..

    Budget will be: 1,500 Euro

    What I'm considering:

    Petrol
    Citreon saxo 1.1
    Peugeot 206 1.1
    Honda Civic 1.3
    Opel Corsa C 1.2
    Ford Fiesta 1.2 (kent engine)
    VW polo 1.2
    Seat Ibiza 1.2
    Toyota starlet EP80/EP91 1.3
    Mitsubishi Colt 1.3
    Mitsubishi lancer 1.3
    Nissan Micra k10 1.0
    Sizuki Swift 1.0

    Diesel
    Peugeot 1.4
    Citreon saxo 1.4
    Corsa C 1.7 td
    Seat Cordoba 1.9 sdi
    Vw Lupo 1.4 TDI
    Vauxhall Cavalier 1.7TD
    Opel Vectra 1.7TD
    Toyota starlet 1.5 (Rare)
    Toyota Yaris 1.4
    Sokda Fabia 1.9 sdi
    Vw Vento 1.9 sdi
    Vw golf Mk4 1.9 tdi

Note* Realistically I'd prefer a diesel car.

So whats the opinions on the above or any opinions welcome? :)

Out of intetest have you driven sdi's much? I realise you probably have them listed due to insurance but mother of god they would be hard to live with

You should consider a tdi instead of and sdi. If it's insurance your worried about with the tdi, my insurance company classes them in the same bracket so there's no price difference. And I'm guessing all other insurers do aswell.

    Hi,

No never drove a SDI, i listed them as I did consider them to be cheap on insurence.

But if Insurances do have them in the same bracket I'd consider a TDI lupo and TDI mk4 golf.

@Scott what insurance company are you with if you don't mind me asking..

If I was you I would strongly consider a mk2 Punto. Aim for an ELX but settle for a lower spec in a very well looked after car :)

Unfortunately I wouldn't drive any mk2 Punto, in any shape or form. As I really wouldn't be bothered doing all that maintenance on it, just so the HG wouldn't fail. Also I don't really like them.

I also wouldn't drive a petrol yaris unless it's a 1.5 t-sport. But that would be further down the road of car ownership..

    Thanks anyway for your post..

Well IMO you are ruling out an excellent little car purely based on the fact that it needs the coolant changed every 2 (or is it 3?) years to keep an otherwise extremely robust engine happy. Any car you will get will need to be maintained and a Punto is just about as easy to maintain as a teaspoon :)

Just change the coolant every 2/3 years whichever it is and there you go, no more worries :)

Could be a lot worse trust me

There will always be signs before a hg goes. Im a hard driver and never had a hg, engine, clutch or gearbox go because I go reasonable maintenance and don't ignore faults

I'm with Asgard. There fairly good if your a yound driver. If you have your lessons done aswell they seem to count them as a 1 year NCB. I went through a broker for them(creane and creane). Seems to be hard to actually get a quote off them directly.

Has to be a golf really. Lupo is a tiny tiny car. I've had two puntos both had gearbox problems. Golf 1.4 petrol maybe, TDI would be my preference though
