    Hi folks
Just a quick question to get an idea for a beginner.
Roughly how long do you reckon someone should be training for in BJJ (3 time a week) before beginning to enter competitions?
    Thanks in advance.

    ASAP.

I was training 2 months before I entered my first one. Do it asap.

    Have you asked your coach?.

Its hard to tell you here since we don't know you, some people have a natural fighting ability and others are always going to be on a steep learning curve.

But I'd say when you're comfortable defending chokes/strangles joint locks in the club then its definitely time to consider competing.

Best of luck when you do compete, its huge craic.

I'd be inclined to say 2-3 months also. Competition can be a great learning tool itself.
Realistically, the timing will be dictated by the events calender, rather than an idea period of time.
I had my first competitive match (in club tourney) after 6 weeks. Enjoyed it immensely and entered the next available comp.
