This will be huge if true, although even in the face of definitve proof, we still have young earth creationists.

I think of all of us deep down, look for a moment like this of complete and utter serenity, and validation in our lives (however much we say we don't).

If the universe is thought to have begun as an infinitesimally small, infinitely hot, infinitely dense, something that is dubbed in physics a singularity: then where did this singularity come from? I ask as a scientist who has never been able to get an answer to this conundrum.

According to Bishop James Ussher it was some time between 23rd October 4004BC and 15th November 4003BC, but he didn't give a time of day.

I'd say the problem lies in the fact its so instinctual to think of things as having an beginning and an end and all but impossible to think of something existing without coming into existence. But time, space and the laws as we know them do not exist in a singularity as far as I'm aware.

I'd say the answer to those types of questions are going to need a much much deeper understanding of things than we'll have for a long long time.

Typical bishop then. They never give you the time of day. Snobs.
