Just off to a Paddy's Day sesh and picked up a bottle of Bells in Tesco as its on special and it was mentioned in the episode of 1980s Yes Minister I was watching last night (if you know it, the one where they go to a Sharia country and get around the drink ban by setting up an "emergency telephone room" and hiding booze in it :D) - anyone know if it's any good, and should it be consumed straight or mixed? A quick Google reveals a torrent of scathing reviews, but I'm staying optimistic by telling myself that those who enjoy a product rarely go online to comment on it so the reviews are probably skewed.

It's a bog standard blended Scotch.
    It is what it is.

It's a big standard blended Scotch.
    It is what it is.

+1 That episode of Yes Minister stuck to the bog standard brands that everyone knows about because you'll see some or all of them on the spirits shelf in every pub in the UK - Teachers, Haig, Bells, Johnnie Walker etc. Bells is nothing special, it's as common as they come, just one notch above own-brand.

Bells is grand. Nothing at all wrong with it. Enjoy.

Bells is far from grand, its probably the poorest quality whisky i have drank.

You've never tried Duggan's Dew then?;)

Bells is fine, in my opinion... a pretty good quality scotch blend. The original and the 8-yr-old are both fine.

Ended up having it straight with a couple of the lads and it was grand, certainly pretty far from the rat piss it was made out to be in the aforementioned review websites I stumbled across.

Would also like to point out that I don't generally base my drinking decisions on Yes Minister, was just in the mood to try something new for the day that was in it, saw it on special and remembered it from the episode on Sunday :D

Hope everyone had a good Paddy's Day!
