is there such a thing as a towbar protector that you can retro fit?

have a few different things to tow from now on , alreadt tipped off the bumper rear paintwork , when trailer rolled slightly /when attaching.

I want something that you can retro fit with strong bolts...to avoid tips /marks/scratches.

    many thks

It depends on the type of towbar you have.

If it is like those usually fitted on an older jeep, you will have a T-shaped tow ball bolted onto a frame mounted on the vehicle. For this type, you can get a metal bumper protector plate from any place that sells towing gear. This is fitted between the tow ball and the towbar frame.

If doing the job yourself, make sure to retighten the bolts again after each of the first couple of towing jobs as they can work loose surprisingly quickly if not tightened absolutely 100%.

For a swan neck towbar, it will depend on the vehicle but you might be able to get something that mounts on the bumper? I have no experience of this type myself as I have an old jeep for towing.

Have a look at the caravan owners sites in the uk. You can't be the first person with this problem, so there will be an answer out there somewhere.
