GHD recommendations

    Hi guys,
Well my GHD has packed in after 5 years so am getting a new one tomorrow. After looking them up online I'm a bit confused as to which one to go for. Last time I bought one there was no choice but there seems to be a few different types of GHD out there now. I use mine daily, have thick hair, prone to greasiness cut into a bob style so am just wondering if anyone could recommend which type of GHD to go for and also anywhere that might be doing offers at the minute?:-)

When you say yours has packed in what do you mean? I have a GHD for years, think I got it in 2005. It's a great one, seems to be much better than the ones they have out now.
Cable started to go dodgy and eventually stopped working.
Was going to toss it in the bin but a hairdresser friend told me cable could be replaced. A fortnight and about 12 quid later on a cable from ebay my GHD was back in action!
Don't know what way yours is gone but maybe it can be repaired? :)

Thanks a mill for your reply. Was using it this afternoon and it just stopped working. Have plugged it into different sockets but it just won't come back on unfortunately :( I use it everyday without fail, my hair is dreadfully kinked and has no shape without using it so definitely need a new one tomorrow! Have a one4all voucher so will be using that to buy it that way I won't feel as guilty buying a brand new one!!:)

    You're welcome! :)
I know lol - I have that hair too! :D
Seriously though, don't chuck out your old one, down the line you may get the chance to have it fixed.
Good luck with the new one anyways! :)

Oh yeah, definitely, because I honestly don't think the current models are a patch on the old ones. I bought my Mum a new one for christmas last year and anytime I'm going home for the weekend she always tells me to bring my one home! :D

Oh thanks for the heads up! Will definitely ask about heat range etc cause mine is so much hotter then my sister's GHD so definitely want the hottest one available, even though I'm forever burning myself with it!:/ will hopefully update with good news tomorrow!:)

Have you tried changing the fuse?

To be honest I wouldn't have a clue how to go about that!!

My GHD packed in as well last week - was only 3 years old. I might look at getting it fixed but think its a temperature issue so may not be worth it so got a new one this week. Got the V styler, which I think is the newer version of the IV , but there's not a huge difference in price. The other one is the eclipse but it's a good bit dearer and reviews I've read don't seem to justify the extra expense. I have long thick hair and I use it every other day. I got the wonderland on look fantastic for €119, which was the best price I found - should arrive tomorrow.

Sure will ask dad tomorrow so and hopefully he can figure out what the problem might be!
Thanks copea2 for the info about where to get one online and the different ones out there :)

I actually went to get one today but of course Peter Marks was the one and only shop closed in Blanchardstown, typical!;)

This might sound crazy but was the room you used them in freezing cold? I thought my gods broke last year they were the big fat ones IV styler they literally stopped working.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/ghd-G0-4SS-IV-Salon-Styler/dp/B0012X5RHK/ref=sr_1_1?s=drugstore&ie=UTF8&qid=1395090864&sr=1-1&keywords=ghd+max I tried everything to fix them changed fuse etc and ended up buying new ones the max styler

Anyway a couple of months later I read on the internet about a safety thing that if room is too cold ghds won't heat up as plates could crack (I think) because of temp difference so I tried them again and they worked!! So I now have 2 ghds! There is or at least used to be a few places that fixed ghds that you could try first?

Have actually had the problem with it in the past! On cold days it would just continuously beep for about 4mins (very annoying!!) until it had warmed up enough under the duvet and would then work properly so don't think that's the problem but will leave it in a drawer tonight between clothes just to double check :) thanks for that advice :) the things we do for beauty!!:D

It's crazy isn't it? My ghds are a necessity! When mine broke I actually brought them to work and got caretaker to look at them lol lol he couldn't fix them so literally just bought new ones there and then. I know they are pricey but when you divide up the cost buy the usage they are worth it!

Completely agree! I absolutely couldn't live without mine. Thankfully I've a sister who's nice enough to share hers for the minute! Oh and thanks for the link for the repair place. Will definitely look into that :)

Well bought myself a new one this afternoon :D got the same model I had because the irons are more exposed which I prefer. The newest version has less of a clamp on the hair to cause less heat damage so didn't go for that one even though it comes with a bag that you can put your GHD into as soon as your finished using it which is very handy! Will look into getting my old one fixed and will take that on holidays etc. Thanks for all the advice everyone!:D
